Byungjun Bae; Joungil Yun; Yong-Tae Lee; Jong-Soo Lim

In this paper, we present the configuration diagram of the interactive Terrestrial Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (T-DMB) system using the Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) telecommunication network for the interactive broadcasting services. The system consists of a T-DMB transmission system, an interactive receiver with a CDMA module, and a return channel server. We also describe the protocol stack for providing data broadcasting service in T-DMB and propose a variety of interactive broadcasting service based on it. In order to verify the proposed service, we design and implement an interactive T-DMB receiver with a CDMA module. And also a return channel server is operated to test it, which includes the interactive contents produced in advance, responding users request. Under the constructed test environment, the proposed service and the newly designed receiver were verified. This means that new interactive services in digital broadcasting are possible on the move by using mobility of T-DMB and CDMA.1

Fast shape from focus using dynamic programming

Joungil Yun; Tae-Sun Choi

In this paper, we propose a fast SFF method, which also provides accurate shape estimation for objects with complex geometry. Dynamic programming is a mathematical tool to determine the optical solution to an n-variable problem efficiently. In the new SF method, dynamic programming is modified and used to find the optimal path that gives maximum focus measure at each pixel with certain constraints. Then the shape of object can be estimated over the 3D FIS. An automated CCD camera system has been developed to implement the proposed method.

This paper introduces the Korean T-DMB standard based on Eureka-147 DAB and presents a new architecture of transmission system for T-DMB service. Because the T-DMB is the extended version of the conventional DAB, the existing devices used for DAB system is still available in the proposed T-DMB transmission system. Therefore, it can be one of the solutions for mobile multimedia broadcasting services with high flexibility and low cost. Practically, we verified and evaluated the proposed T-DMB transmission system in the field while moving on a car in high speed around urban districts surrounded with high buildings.

Analysis on the Parameters of the Evolving Artificial Agents in Sequential Bargaining Game

Seokcheol Chang; Joungil Yun; Ju-sang Lee; SangUk Lee; Nitaigour-Premchand Mahalik; Byung-Ha Ahn

Over the past few years, a considerable number of studies have been conducted on modeling the bargaining game using artificial agents on within-model interaction. However, very few attempts have been made at study on the interaction and co-evolutionary process among heterogeneous artificial agents. Therefore, we present two kinds of artificial agents, based on genetic algorithm (GA) and reinforcement learning (RL), which play a game on between-model interaction. We investigate their co-evolutionary processes and analyze their parameters using the analysis of variance.

Implementation of the hybrid DMB platform based on the SMARTDMB

Kwang-Yong Kim; Joungil Yun; Byungjun Bae; Yun-Jeong Song

Recently, 6 T-DMB (Terrestrial Digital Mobile Broadcasting) broadcasters have launched on the SmartDMB service. SmartDMB services are hybrid application-based services through which users can watch television on smartphones or tablet computers mounted with DMB modules and simultaneously be provided with diverse additional services on the same screen through wireless communication networks. For this, common API functions, too, are provided, which make it possible to provide DMB reception-related functions as a single service within an android framework. This paper briefly explains SmartDMB services and proposes the system that can provide switching services through hybrid stream delivery based on the SmartDMB and a hybrid DMB platform for function tests. In addition, to verity the potential of the services proposed, the prototype system and services for testing are explained as well.

Remultiplexing Eureka-147 Ensemble With MPEG-2 TS for T-DMB Multimedia Service

Joungil Yun; Byungjun Bae; Chung-Hyun Ahn; Soo In Lee; Byung-Ha Ahn

This paper introduces a layered structure of the Korean terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting (T-DMB) ensemble based on Eureka-147 and suggests a new transmission architecture for flexible T-DMB service. In the suggested transmission architecture, MPEG-2 transport stream (TS) for T-DMB multimedia service is inserted into the ensemble distributed via the ensemble transport interface (ETI). Thus, we propose a novel algorithm remultiplexing the ETI with MPEG-2 TS. The architecture of ETI remultiplexing algorithm is described as a four-step process, and implemented as real-time embedded software in an ETI remultiplexing system. The design and implementation of the interoperable ETI remultiplexing system available for a small-scale transmission system for T-DMB service is described in detail.

In this paper, we present the architecture of the interactive T-DMB receiver with a CDMA module for new services linked with the telecommunication network. After implemented it as hardware and software, we verify it by the interactive data service through the T-DMB and the CDMA network. This shows the possibilities of new interactive services in the digital broadcasting by utilizing the mobility of T-DMB and CDMA.
