29.1: Low Cost Barrier Rib Formation Technologies for High Efficiency PDPs

Two new techniques of barrier rib formation applicable to a variety of structures for high-performance PDPs suitable for mass-production were developed. The two techniques are mold replication, using adhesives with a reusable mold, and direct glass sculpting. Both equipment investment and material costs were reduced from previous methods in each technique. The feasibility of each method was demonstrated by fabrication tests and measured performance of test panels.

25.2: Analysis of Deterioration of BaMgAl10O17:Eu2+ Phosphor for Plasma Display Panels

Using TEM, we studied the amorphous phase on a BaMgAl10O17:Eu2+ phosphor surface deteriorated by VUV irradiation. This paper describes growth of the amorphous phase and shows that irradiation from the a-axis of the phosphor crystal intensively increased the growth of the amorphous phase, compared with the results of irradiation from the c-axis.

Fully plated metal electrodes for plasma-display panels

We investigated the feasibility of employing a full-plating processes for the metal electrodes in PDPs. Using deposition with a full-plating process, we succeeded in fabricating copper electrodes with a thicknesses of over 10 μm. Moreover, we fabricated and operated panels with fully plated bus electrodes. These plating processes seem to hold promise in the simultaneous pursuit of metal electrodes with the highest conductance and lower costs.
