Acetone powder of rat kidney was extracted with0.15 m KCl containing 5 mM tris-Cl and 15% glycerol. The fraction, precipitated by 35-75% saturated ammonium sulfate, was chromatographed on a Biogel P-3

A Case of Adult-Onset Vitamin-D Resistant Osteomalacia with Elevated Plasma Parathyroid Hormone Level

A sixteen-year-old girl with adult-onset vitamin-D resistant osteomalacia had an elevated plasma immunoreactive parathyroid hormone level which was readily suppressed by intravenous calcium infusion. Treatment with 300,000 units of vitamin D2 normalized the high plasma immunoreactive parathyroid hormone level as well as augmented phosphaturia. Parathyroid hormone appears to play an important role in the development of vitamin-D resistant rickets in this case.

Age and calcium metabolism in relation to cardiovascular changes induced by renal injury with sodium sulfaacetylthiazole.

Obstructive nephropathy caused by a single intraperitoneal injection of sodium sulfaacetylthiazole (SAT) in a dosage of 0.5 gm/kg body weight induced interstitial myocarditis and medial calcification with medionecrosis of the aorta in 4‐month‐old rats but not in immature 1‐month‐old rats. The calcium content of the aorta, heart and kidneys and the 24‐hour uptake of 45Ca by the aorta, heart and kidneys were significantly increased. The histological changes, the increased calcium content of the heart and aorta, and the increased uptake of 45Ca were prevented by prior parathyroidectomy. Intraosseous 45Ca two weeks after administration for the purpose of labelling the stable bone fraction, was markedly decreased by injection of SAT in rats above the age of 4 months with intact parathyroids but not in immature rats and in parathyroidectomized adult animals. Such mobilization of 45Ca in the stable bone fraction was probably promoted through the increased secretion of parathyroid hormone secondary to SAT‐induced acute renal failure.

Changd of Human Hair with Age (I)

2才から91才にいたる81人の健康男子の毛髪を5才ごとに区切り, 各群5人を選び, 1人5本の試料について, 洗浄後, 蒸留水で十分湿潤し, テンシロンIII型万能引張り試験器で切断荷重, 切断伸長率, 切断仕事量および立ち上りのヤング率を測定した. 毛髪の直径は60~140μの間に分布し, 15才前後をピークとして, 以後加齢とともに漸減の傾向を示し, 二次曲線, または, 15才ごろまでは上昇以後下降する2本の直線の合成として表現される. 年齢と切断荷重, 年齢と切断仕事量の推移もほぼ同様である. これに反し, ヤング率は, 20才ごろまでは減少し, 以後加齢とともに徐々に上昇する二次曲線への回帰が統計的に有意である. 加齢の指標の一つとして, 毛髪の物理的性状の研究は有用である.

骨粗鬆症の診断基準をつくりまた年令による骨の形態学的変化を定量的に表現するために, 中手骨のX線像について, 皮質の厚さの絶対値 (AT), これを中手骨の幅で除した値 (RT), アルミ階段と比較した骨密度 (D), および第1, 第5中手骨におけるこれらの値を第2, 3, 4中手骨におけるそれで除してえられた辺縁中央比をそれぞれ絶対皮質幅, 相対皮質幅, 密度について求め, P/C(AT), P/C(RT), P/C(D) とし, さらに, 密度を皮質幅で除した値D/ATを求め, 年令別性別による変化を検討した結果, 皮質の厚さは年令とともに減少の傾向を示し, ことに中年以後の女性において著しく, 第1, 第5中手骨の皮質の厚さは, 加令とともに著しく減少する結果, P/C(AT), P/C(RT) は著明な年令との負の相関を示し, 密度は女性においてのみ年令と負の相関を示す成績をえた. 密度の性差は30才以上のすべての年令群において著明であり, 女性においては骨密度の減少は男性に比し著明であることを認めた.
