Turmeric has been found to have some efficacies in repairing the skin texture including its ability to enlighten the color of the skin associated to premature skin aging. This study aims to compare between the 0.25% turmeric extract cream and grated turmeric in skin color change. Samples in this study were collected from women subjects that were selected randomly and consecutively. There were 22 women subjects involved in this study that were assigned into two treatment groups: group I with one application a day and group II with two applications a day. Each subject in both groups applied 0.25% turmeric extract cream in upper right arm, control (4% Hydroquinone) in lower right and left arms, and grated turmeric in upper left arm. The treatment responses were evaluated by skin analyzer measuring the pigment number at day 0, 8, and 21. Data were analyzed statistically by Willcoxon test. Study findings indicated significant differences (p<0,05) between twice application of 0. 25% turmeric cream extract and 4% Hq at day 8 (2.30) on skin changes (pigment). There was also a significant difference (p<0,05) when comparing the 0,25 turmeric extract in twice application a day between H21-H0 and H21-H8.

Skin cancer incidence is directly proportional to malignancies in other organs and represents a health problem. This study aims to evaluate the protective effect of topical cocoa extract application on PCNA expression in mice receiving DMBA exposure. This study was conducted in Animal Laboratory for DMBA administration and cocoa extract application, Bimolecular Laboratory of Hasanuddin University as the location of ELISA evaluation. The study used animal experimental method with pure experimental design to find out the role of topical cocoa seeds extract on the skin of mice receiving DMBA application in one week. Twenty mice were divided into 4 treatment groups: first group was control without skin protector, second group with ethanol application, third group with topical cocoa extract application 400 ppm, and fourth group was treated with 800 ppm topical cocoa with 100 ug DMBA exposure three times per week. After one week the treatment was terminated and skin biopsy was excised for PCNA expression evaluation using ELISA. Study findings indicate that 400 ppm and 800 ppm topical cocoa extract had a protective effect on PCNA expression with 400 ppm as the most effective dose.

Acne cases caused by Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria have been reported previously. This study identified methicillin resistant Staphylococcus epidermidis (MRSE) directly from pus speciment from acne patients at various degree of severity. There were 61% positive samples detected by Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) for MRSE using target gene mecA for PCR amplification of acne samples. Significant correlation between the severity of acne and its causative agent (MRSE) was not found.
