Leonardo Flach; Carmem Ligia Iochins Grisci; Francielle Molon da Silva; Vanessa Manfredini

The present article aims to analyze how the Magazine Voce S/A approaches the thematic of psychic suffering in contemporary work. the study is based on an exploratory-descriptive research, and twelve editions of the Magazine Voce S/A, from the period of July of 2005 until June of 2006 have been analyzed. Due to the analysis (Minayo, 1994), three main categories emerged: the causes of the suffering; its consequences for individuals and for organizations; indicators of health prevention and maintenance. As results of the research, it is emphasized that the individuals are presented as the only responsible for the suffering at work. It has also concluded that subjects such as the experiences of insecurity and uncertainness feelings, the increase of the competitiveness and big solicitation, are presented in many articles of the magazine. these articles praise prescriptive tips to overcome suffering without arguing the causes that generate suffering beyond the individual sphere.

Improvisation and learning in organizations: reflections on the basis of the metaphor of improvisation in theater and music

Leonardo Flach; Claudia Simone Antonello

There are moments in organizations when immediate answers are required, involving improvisation. These occasions do not provide enough time for items such as planning, standardization and control. Thus, there is a demand for new theoretical models and practices to meet these organizational needs. This essay aims to identify and propose, starting from the metaphor of the arts, some ideas to help to understand the role of improvisation in learning processes in organizations. Thus, the following proposals are discussed: (a) time influences the process of improvisation; (b) improvisation works with bricolage; (c) improvisation starts from minimal structures; (d) pause and silence are also part of the process of improvisation; (e) improvisation may be individual or collective; (f) improvisation may be based on cliches and repetition or variation of themes; (g) error is part of improvisation; (h) improvisation in a group requires continuous dialogue and negotiation; (i) performance is essential in the act of improvisation.

Dusan Schreiber; Leonardo Flach; Claudia Simone Antonello

International trade plays a special role in all countries due the influence exerted in the economic and social field. At the same time, subjects such as planning and implementing the operation of export and import becomes very important, with particular relevance among entrepreneurs and academics. When it comes to this issue, the aim of this teaching case is to provide discussions about the subjects of entrepreneurship, business planning and the learning of strategists. It describes the experience of company SK, started in July of 1997, which began its businesses through exporting and importing leather and its artifacts. Later, the enterprise redirected its focus and began importing chocolates for the Brazilian market. The entrepreneur found, during the process of the business construction, a series of challenges that obliged him to make decisions and make choices. Having an amount of capital and willingness to undertake, he had to decide which path to follow and how to decide. Were there right and wrong choices? How would he plan and operationalize a start-up business? How would he evaluate opportunities and estimate the risk of an enterprise? These are some of many questions that the reader will be challenged to answer after analyzing this case.
