Triterpenoid saponins from the stems of Clematis parviloba

Li-Hua Yan; Li-Zhen Xu; Jia Lin; Shilin Yang; Yulin Feng

Sixteen triterpenoid saponins (1–16) were isolated from the stems of Clematis parviloba, including a new compound, parvilobaside A (1), which was established as 23-O-acetyl-hederagenin-3-O-β-d-ribopyranosyl-(1 → 3)-α-l-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 → 2)-α-l-arabinopyranoside on the basis of various spectroscopic techniques and chemical evidences. Among the isolated compounds, clematoside S (2) and α-hederin (4) showed moderate cytotoxic activities against four human tumor cell lines (HCT-8, Bel-7402, BGC-823, and A-2780) with IC50 values in the range of 1.44–6.86 μg/ml.

Inositol angelates from the whole herb of Inula cappa

Zhong-Mei Zou; Hong-Gang Xie; Hongwu Zhang; Li-Zhen Xu

A new inositol derivative, cis-1,2,3,5-trans-4,6-inositol-2,3,6-triangelate(1) along with the known l-inositol-1,2,3,5-tetra angelate(2), was isolated from the ethanolic extract of the whole plant Inula cappa and identified on the spectroscopic analysis.

Two new macrocyclic compounds from the stems of Clematis armandii

Li-Hua Yan; Shilin Yang; Zhong-Mei Zou; Xiu-Zhen Luo; Li-Zhen Xu

Phytochemical investigation of Clematis armandii (Ranunculaceae) has resulted in the isolation of two new macrocyclic compounds named clemoarmanosides A (1) and B (2), along with two known macrocyclic compounds berchemolide (3) and clemochinenoside B (4). The structures of 1 and 2 were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic data and chemical methods. In addition, several 13 C-NMR data of 4 were amended by 2D-NMR spectra analysis in this paper.

27-nor-triterpenoid glycosides from the barks of Zygophyllum fabago L.

Yulin Feng; He-Ran Li; Li-Zhen Xu; Shilin Yang

From the bark of Zygophyllum fabago L., a new 27-nor-triterpenoid glycoside, 3-O-β-d-glucopyranosyl-pyrocincholate (1), together with five known compounds, 3-O-6-deoxy-β-d-glucopyranosyl-pyrocincholate (2), quinovic acid (3), 3-O-6-deoxy-β-d-glucopyranosyl-quinovic acid (4), 3-O-β-d-glucopyranosyl- quinovic acid (5) and 3-O-6-deoxy-β-d-glucopyranosyl-cincholic acid (6), were isolated and their structures elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic data. Compounds 1, 2 and 3 showed some anti-tumour activities by MTT assay.

A new sterol glycoside from Securidaca inappendiculata

Li-Jie Zhang; Xue-Dong Yang; Li-Zhen Xu; Zhong-Mei Zou; Shilin Yang

From the roots of Securidaca inappendiculata, one new sterol glycoside securisteroside (1) has been isolated, along with two known sterols, spinasterol (2) and 3-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-spinasterol (3). The new sterol was characterized by chemical and spectrometric methods, including EIMS, FABMS and one- and two-dimensional NMR experiments.

New Lignans from Kadsura coccinea and Their Nitric Oxide Inhibitory Activities

He-Ran Li; Yulin Feng; Zhigang Yang; Zhongmei Zhou; Li-Zhen Xu; Akihiro Daikonya; Jue Wang; Susumu Kitanaka; Shilin Yang

In vitro anti-allergic screening of medicinal herbal extracts revealed that the chloroform extract of the rhizoma of Kadsura coccinea inhibited nitric oxide (NO) production in a lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and recombinant mouse interferon-y (IFN-y) activated murine macrophage like cell line, RAW264.7. Further fractionation of the chloroform extract led to the isolation of two new lignans kadsuralignans D (1) and E (2) with other two known dibenzocyclooctadiene lignans kadsulignan N (3) and neokadsuranin (4).
