The present study aimed to estimate aerobic power in wheelchair athletes with SCI. Other objetive was VO2max levels correlate with the functional classification of athletes and analyze the behavior of the FC before and after testing. The sample consisted of 10 male athletes with SCI and mean age was 29.6 ± 6.5 years. The athletes were tested for race 12 minutes and the heart rate monitor was used. The average VO2max was 18.3±8.1 ml (kg.min)-1, while the mean HRmax was 114.6±25.3bpm. The VO2max values obtained in the study are classified as medium for people with quadriplegia. It was observed that there is a moderate correlation (r = 0.77) between the functional classification and VO2max among athletes practicing WR and finally, was observed low values of HR will face a submaximal test, which may be related to decreased activity symphatetic after SCI.

The Wheel Chair Rugby (WR) is a Paralympic sport designed for people with tetraplegia. The performance of WR athletes relies heavily on the technology used and the athletes physical capaticy. The heart rate (HR) is an important physiological parameter used to control training in team sports, thanks to its good practical applicability. In the present study it is used in parasports, taking into account the physiological and metabolic changes present in athletes with spinal cord injury. The objective of this study was to analyze the intensity of effort by HR behavior of athletes with Spinal Cord Injury during a match of WR. This present sample comes to 6 athletes from WR with spinal cord injury above T6, male, while 9 games, where they were monitored through their HR. The average HR found was 138 ± 18bpm (beats per minute), this value is close to the values presented in the literature. The intensity zone in 54.52% of the game was the recovery training zone that is not consistent with the literature, because in this study was not performed one maximal HR test, it has been estimated by equations and because it is tetraplegic individuals, turned out to overestimate the maximum HR. It was conclu- ded that WR athletes have reduced HR, reaching the maximum average of 138 bpm during the game, there was no correlation between maximal HR found and playing position and it is not possible, for search limitations, state that certain intensity zone found matches real effort of the athlete.

The wheelchair rugby (WR) is a paralympic Sport played by people with physical disabilities and its growth is related to university participation. This study described the WR development at university, through a case study at Physical Education College of Unicamp. The WR is related to learning, researching and extension; due the contact with the sport, conducting research; practical experience and approach to community. The university extension is a important opportunity to practical experience and approach to community of Physical Education students. Due the approaching to science, the work with WR is consistent, reaching good sports results.
