Methodi Ordinatio: a proposed methodology to select and rank relevant scientific papers encompassing the impact factor, number of citation, and year of publication

An increase in the number of scientific publications in the last few years, which is directly proportional to the appearance of new journals, has made the researchers’ job increasingly complex and extensive regarding the selection of bibliographic material to support their research. Not only is it a time consuming task, it also requires suitable criteria, since the researchers need to elect systematically the most relevant literature works. Thus the objective of this paper is to propose the methodology called Methodi Ordinatio, which presents criteria to select scientific articles. This methodology employs an adaptation of the ProKnow-C for selection of publications and the InOrdinatio, which is an index to rank by relevance the works selected. This index crosses the three main factors under evaluation in a paper: impact factor, year of publication and number of citations. When applying the equation, the researchers identify among the works selected the most relevant ones to be in their bibliographic portfolio. As a practical application, it is provided a research sample on the theme technology transfer models comprising papers from 1990 to 2015. The results indicated that the methodology is efficient regarding the objectives proposed, and the most relevant papers on technology transfer models are presented.

Gestão do conhecimento como estratégia de desenvolvimento econômico e regional

The article presents a comprehensive view about knowledge management as a way of promoting clusters and regional development. The methodology used in the research included a literature review on the topics, with analysis of titles, abstracts and full review of the texts. The inclusion criterion was the approach of the two main variables. Results led to a comprehensive view of the subject, as well as the verification that innovations in clusters (vertex in knowledge management) depend on structuring initiatives aimed at regional development.

A measurement model for managing performance of horizontal business networks and a research case

A significant challenge facing companies that are members of collaborative networks are measuring their market performance, even as they evaluate their contribution to the development of the network. This paper develops a model for analyzing the performance measurement of horizontal business networks. We do this by reviewing literature related to performance management in horizontal networks and systematically selecting eight functional perspectives, and 25 operational factors associated with them, to measure the performance of both companies and the network. We employ the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) for deciding perspective weights and use its quantitative results to create a diagram for representing the effectiveness of performance management at the company and network level. The model is tested by applying it to companies in an Information Technology business network. We analyze the results of the individual and network performance of the companies surveyed, along with the evaluative perspectives relevant to the network.

Construction and qualitative assessment of a bibliographic portfolio using the methodology Methodi Ordinatio

Methodi Ordinatio is a methodology used to accomplish systematic literature reviews, to build bibliographical portfolios, and to map the state of the art of a research theme. It is composed of nine phases. The 7th phase, named InOrdinatio, applies an equation that orders the papers according to its scientific relevance. The equation applies the alpha (α) element, which can vary from 0 to 10 depending on the research need of currentness and according to the researcher’s perception for its variation. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to test and analyse the variations of the alpha (α) values in the equation InOrdinatio and its influence in the qualification of the items that composes a portfolio. In order to reach this purpose, a practical application was performed and a bibliographic portfolio on the theme Horizontal Business Networks and Trust was built. Using the data from the bibliographic portfolio, the alpha values from 0 to 10 were applied and their influence on the final qualification of the articles was analysed. As a complementary objective, the areas where the methodology was successfully applied until now are also identified. The results show that the methodology is coherent, reproducible and useful to sort the most relevant articles in accordance with what is internationally recognized as valid scientific criteria: the impact factor, year of publication, and number of citations.

Análise do desempenho de alunos ingressantes de engenharia na disciplina de cálculo diferencial e integral I

Este artigo tem como objetivo avaliar variaveis a fim de verificar quais delas sao efetivamente significativas para a reprovacao de alunos ingressantes de cursos de engenharia na disciplina de Calculo Diferencial e Integral I. Por meio de uma pesquisa bibliografica, elencou-se os fatores mais citados como passiveis de influenciar o desempenho de alunos ingressantes de engenharia, identificando-se dois principais eixos tematicos: conhecimento matematico previo e estrutura didatico/pedagogica dos cursos de engenharia. Desses eixos foram associadas e investigadas as seguintes variaveis: nota obtida pelos estudantes na prova de Matematica do Exame Nacional do Ensino Medio (ENEM), pesos atribuidos as provas de Matematica do ENEM, periodo de ingresso no curso (outono ou primavera), conhecimento matematico basico previo, carga horaria semanal de aulas a que sao submetidos esses alunos e metodologia de avaliacao diferenciada. Para tal analise utilizou-se de um estudo de caso, tendo como foco a Universidade Tecnologica Federal do Parana (UTFPR). Trata-se de uma pesquisa quantitativa, cuja amostra e composta por 3.010 ingressantes nos cursos de engenharia em dois câmpus da UTFPR, no periodo compreendido de 2010 a 2014. Os dados foram coletados por meio de consultas ao sistema academico institucional e aplicacao de testes junto aos alunos ingressantes. Em sintese, os resultados apontam para a existencia de relacao entre o desempenho academico em Calculo Diferencial e Integral I e as cinco primeiras variaveis supramencionadas. Quanto a metodologia de avaliacao diferenciada aplicada neste estudo os resultados nao trazem evidencias da influencia desta variavel no desempenho academico.

Scientific publications in society: correlation of Industrial Ecology and Industrial Clusters

Os Arranjos Produtivos Locais desempenham um papel importante para o desenvolvimento de cidades e regioes, e, a Ecologia Industrial e uma area de pesquisa emergente no campo cientifico, no desenvolvimento regional sustentavel e em solucoes no desenvolvimento da producao e da sociedade. Este trabalho teve como objetivo central verificar, publicacao cientifica entre Ecologia Industrial e Arranjos Produtivos Locais na sociedade academica, disponibilizadas nas bases Capes e Scielo, com vistas em identificar a evolucao do tema e a relacao entre eles. Assim identifica a evolucao do tema em âmbito social e cientifico. Para atingir a proposta, realizou-se como procedimento metodologico uma revisao da literatura baseada na bibliometria. Para a aplicacao do estudo, foram utilizadas fases do instrumento ProKnow-C. As palavras-chave foram pesquisadas em ingles e portugues, entre os anos de 2000 a 2011. Os resultados obtidos por meio dos procedimentos metodologicos utilizados apontaram que o campo da Ecologia Industrial e sua relacao com Arranjos Produtivos Locais ainda e proficuo de estudos. No entanto, observou-se uma ascendencia de estudos que correlacionam os temas. Diante das verificacoes iniciais, percebe-se interesse por parte das publicacoes e dos pesquisadores em aprofundar suas questoes de pesquisa nessa area. O presente trabalho identificou ainda novas palavras-chave e oportunidades de pesquisa a serem aprofundadas, possibilitando a continuidade dos estudos voltados para o desenvolvimento regional, social e sustentavel.

Estudo bibliométrico para construção científica de modelo de inovação tecnológica em redes de empresas

Esse artigo analisou a producao cientifica ocorrida nos ultimos dez anos, concernente a modelos de inovacao tecnologica, a fim de construir um novo modelo em redes de empresas. Para tanto, desenvolveu-se um portfolio bibliografico de trabalhos cientificos com os termos Inovacao, Redes de Empresas e Modelo de Inovacao, ressaltando, por meio de estudo bibliometrico, quantos e quais eram os artigos que envolveram esses termos no periodo de 2003 a 2013. Foi utilizado o metodo PROKNOW-C, no qual se buscou identificar a quantidade de artigos com os termos inovacao, APL, rede de empresas, arranjo produtivo local, aglomerado, cluster, modelo de inovacao e metodologia de inovacao; e em seguida, construiu-se uma analise bibliometrica desses artigos. Em geral, no que se refere aos resultados, ao analisar a media de frequencia de artigos com os termos relacionados, foram totalizados 52 artigos cientificos especificos para a linha de pesquisa. Como conclusao, verificou-se que a sistematizacao atraves do metodo de pesquisa simplificou e organizou as tarefas da pesquisa, gerando, como resultado, a ampliacao do conhecimento do pesquisador sobre o tema desejado, assim como meios de justificativa das referencias utilizadas na pesquisa, permitindo elementos para construcao de um modelo de inovacao tecnologica.

Is mathematical background crucial to freshmen engineering students

The objective of this paper is to study the influence of the background in Mathematics on the failure rates in Calculus. Some papers in the literature deal with problems related to teaching-learning in Calculus under different points of view. Among those problems, one that is often cited is the lack of mathematical background presented by freshman-year Engineering students. In order to analyze the impact of this lack of background, a study with 419 first-year Calculus students on two campuses of the Federal University of Technology - Paraná (UTFPR) was conducted. The students took a diagnostic test with 15 questions that measured their knowledge on topics that are considered as prerequisite for Calculus. The results of this study showed that there is a moderate correlation and dependency between the background in Mathematics and the final grade in Calculus. Evidently, if the student has a solid mathematical background, there is a higher probability of success in Calculus. However, one can notice that even with lower scores on the diagnostic test, some students managed to obtain passing grades in Calculus. This fact indicates that the background in Mathematics might not be a decisive factor on the performance in Calculus.

Estrutura de análise da coopetição de redes de cooperação horizontais

Este trabalho tem por objetivo a proposicao de uma estrutura para a analise da coopeticao de redes de cooperacao horizontais de empresas – RCHs, a fim de identificar quais os niveis de abrangencia desta analise, interferem diretamente nos niveis de competitividade deste tipo de redes organizacionais. Para isso, foi realizada uma vasta revisao bibliografica, sendo composta por todos os trabalhos cientificos publicados no periodo de janeiro de 2008 a julho de 2011 dispostos no Portal Periodicos CAPES, formando um portfolio bibliografico especializado no estudo e proposicao de metodos, ferramentas e modelos para a analise da coopeticao e da competitividade de redes de cooperacao horizontais de empresas. Como resultado, obteve-se a estrutura de analise da coopeticao de RCHs, sendo composta em quatro niveis hierarquicos: o nivel sistemico; nivel setorial; nivel de inter-relacao e; nivel interno.

Gestão de conhecimento em aglomerados de empresas: rede de valor como instrumento para fortalecer o intercâmbio de conhecimento

This study aimed to highlight the value network as a tool for knowledge exchange in Local Clusters. The methodology used in this research was qualitative and exploratory. The concept of information networks and value networks were used in order that the flow of information and knowledge being consolidate between the various agents of company networks, through better knowledge management. It was used a theoretical concept of value networks and concepts of knowledge management, and, the main approaches of Local Clusters. From the conducted research in this study, it was observed how information networks can contribute to the dissemination of information. It was also possible to establish a theoretical analysis on the value network and the value of knowledge, thus, allowing correlating and explaining the role of knowledge as an instrument in the economic and regional development in Local Clusters.
