The concept of perceived value: a systematic review of the research:

Raquel Sánchez-Fernández; M. Ángeles Iniesta-Bonillo

The purpose of this article is to present a systematic review of the extensive research that has been conducted on the conceptualization of perceived value. The major conclusions of the present study are: (i) that both uni-dimensional and multi-dimensional models of value have their roles to play in providing simplified (uni-dimensional) and complex (multi-dimensional) understandings of the concept; (ii) that the nature of perceived value is complex and multi-dimensional; (iii) that the concept of perceived value implies an interaction between a consumer and a product; (iv) that value is relative by virtue of its comparative, personal, and situational nature; and (v) that value is preferential, perceptual, and cognitive-affective in nature. By organizing and synthesizing the major research streams and the individual studies within them, the present study thus provides a comprehensive framework for future studies of the dimensionality of perceived value.

The Conceptualisation and Measurement of Consumer Value in Services

Raquel Sánchez-Fernández; M. Ángeles Iniesta-Bonillo; Morris B Holbrook

Consumer value has been widely recognised as a key factor in organisational management, marketing strategy and consumer behaviour. However, because of the scattered and non-conclusive pattern of research on this concept, no single conceptualisation or measurement has won universal acceptance. The present paper develops an approach to understanding and measuring consumer value in a service context. The psychometric properties of the resulting indices support the multidimensional structure of the value concept. Hence, through both theoretical and managerial implications, this study suggests directions for further empirical research on this important topic.

Online value creation in small service businesses: the importance of experience valence and personal values

M. Ángeles Iniesta-Bonillo; Raquel Sánchez-Fernández; Amparo Cervera-Taulet

Perceived value is of great interest in current marketing research. However, in the area of Internet as a shopping channel of small businesses, there has been little analysis of customer perceived value and its determinants. This paper examines two little analysed aspects of value creation, experience valence and personal values. The analysis of data from a survey of tourism service purchase shows that experience valence, in terms of relevant information, ease of use and customer service, clearly influences perceived value after the online shopping experience. In contrast, only personal values of sense of security and sense of accomplishment influence perceived value.

Exploring the concept of perceived sustainability at tourist destinations: a market segmentation approach

Raquel Sánchez-Fernández; M. Ángeles Iniesta-Bonillo; Amparo Cervera-Taulet

ABSTRACT The concept of sustainability as perceived by tourists has rarely been studied and much less considered as a basis for segmentation. This article provides a conceptual framework based on tourists’ perception of sustainability policies at destinations and a multidimensional measure for this construct. An empirical analysis at five Mediterranean destinations validated the conceptual proposal and provided empirical evidence for the potential use of perceived sustainability in segmentation studies. Our findings show the discriminating power of the construct, identifying four latent clusters. Perceived sustainability as a tool for segmentation can help analyze the effectiveness of sustainability strategies and action taken.
