Abstracttrans-2-Styryl-substituted 3H-, 3-phenyl-, and 3-naphthylquinazolin-4-ones and their 6,7-difluoro derivatives were synthesized by condensation of appropriate 2-methylquinazolin-4-ones with aromatic aldehydes or by the transformation of the heterocycle of 2-methyl-3,1-benzoxazin-4-one under the action of benzylidenephenylamines.

TiO2-SiO2 xerogels have been synthesized by the hydrolysis of tetrabutoxytitanium-tetraethoxysilane mixtures in a 10% aqueous ammonia vapor and concentrated hydrochloric acid vapor atmospheres under static conditions. The dependence of the physical and chemical properties of the xerogels on the synthetic conditions has been investigated.

The method of the synthesis of dispersed powders of silicon, titanium, and zirconium dioxides was developed, including formation of cellulose inorganic composites by impregnation of pressed granules of powdered cellulose with solutions of tetraethoxysilane and tetrabutoxy zirconium, hydrolysis of the organometallic constituent of the composite, pyrolysis of the cellulose matrix of the composite, and burning of its carbon constituent.

Novel Zn(II) complexes with 2-styryl-8-hydroxyquinoline were synthesized and characterized by 1H, 19F, and 13C NMR spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis. Photoluminescence properties of the ligands and complexes in solutions were studied. The effect of substituents in the quinoline and phenylethenyl fragments on spectral characteristics was discussed.

Activated carbons were prepared by high-temperature steam activation of carbonized samples of powdered cellulose and composite cellulose-inorganic materials based on it. The dependences of the yield of the material and in its physicochemical characteristics on the initial formula of the composite were found. The sorption activity of the carbons toward hydroquinone was determined, and the model reaction of hydrogen peroxide decomposition in their presence was performed.

A reaction of 3-(2-ethoxyphenyl)-substituted chalcone with aminoazoles was studied. The nature of aza groups in aminoazoles was found to affect the regioselectivity of β-amination in the course of the formation of isomeric pyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridine, azolo[1,5-a]- and [4,3-a]-pyrimidine systems and the depth of the reaction were determined. A regulatory role of catalysts and solvents in the direction of the cascade reactions was established. Mechanisms of the reactions were suggested. A significance of the alkoxy substituent in chalcone for stereoselective synthesis of Michael adducts, including 3-(2-ethoxyphenyl)-3-(7-(2-ethoxyphenyl)-5-phenyl-6,7-dihydroazolopyrimidin-6-yl)-1-phenylpropan-1-ones, was demonstrated. The structures of products synthesized were established by 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis.

Nanosized Al, Mg, and Ti-Si oxides, as well as barium hydroxide, have been tested as heterogeneous catalysts in the Robinson reaction with 2-ethoxy-substituted chalcone and podands based thereon. Barium hydroxide catalyzes the first step of the Robinson reaction, Michael addition, while its activity in the second step involving intramolecular cyclization and dehydration is lower. Nanosized oxides effectively catalyze the second step of the Robinson reaction and hamper elimination of the carboxy group. Procedures have been developed for the synthesis of oxocyclohexenecarboxylic acid derivatives and symmetric and asymmetric podands based thereon.

Binary systems of silica and zirconia xerogels have been prepared by hydrolysis of zirconium(IV) oxychloride in the silica gel matrix. Systems of various composition have been studied by 1H NMR, IR spectroscopy, and thermogravimetry and have been tested in a model process of hydrogen peroxide decomposition. It has been shown that the physicochemical properties of binary oxide systems can be tailored by varying the component ratio.

A procedure was developed for modification of titanium dioxide xerogel by addition of powder cellulose in the stage preceding hydrolysis of tetramethoxytitanium. The resulting catalytic systems based on the new material were studied in a model liquid-phase catalytic process of oxidative dehydrogenation of trimethylhydroquinone with atmospheric oxygen.
