Význam a obsah prarodičovské role u mladých českých seniorů a seniorek

Prarodicovstvi je jednou z nově objevujicich se socialnich roli mladeho staři. Neni vsak roli jedinou. V ramci diskursů o aktivnim starnuti se předpoklada, že mladi senioři budou aktivnimi nositeli řady dalsich roli ve veřejnem i soukromem životě. V přispěvku se proto zabývame prarodicovstvim v kontextu ostatnich roli mladých seniorů a seniorek. Pomoci integrovaneho přistupu k analýze reprezentativniho výběroveho setřeni „Životni role“ realizovaneho mezi osobami ve věku 50-70 let a kvalitativnich rozhovorů popisujeme, jake role mladi senioři zastavaji, a jak v ramci svých individualnich rolových setů usazuji a ramuji roli prarodicovskou. Popisujeme obsah typickeho výkonu role skrze podily hlavnich cinnosti a aktivit, kterými je role naplňovana. Pozornost přitom věnujeme genderovým rozdilům, ktere se projevuji jak v připisovanem významu role, tak v miře a typu vykonavaných cinnosti. Jako klicový problem se ukazuje casovost prarodicovske role, kdy intenzivni peci střida rolove prazdno. S výjimkou specifických socioekonomických kategoriich nebyly nezjistěny empiricke souvislosti mezi prarodicovstvim a pocity stěsti, přistupy ke starnuti, osamělosti, nebo stresu. Argumentujeme, že důvodem jsou předevsim aktivni strategie zvladani (rizik) přetiženi, ktere vedou k ustalene životni spokojenosti a vytvaři prostor pro zvladani komplexnich rolových setů mladých seniorů.

Šedivějící hodnoty? Aktivita jako dominantní způsob stárnutí

Prace se věnuje soucasným podobam starnuti v ceske spolecnosti a analýze vlivu věku na participaci. Populacni starnuti a proměny spolecnosti souvisejici s individualizaci a prosazovanim neoliberalni politiky vedou k tlaku na jedince, aby starnul aktivně. Cilem prace je explorovat, jake různe formy tato aktivita může nabývat, do jake miry jsou v těchto oblastech senioři zapojeni a jak, ci zda se jejich zapojeni lisi od mladsich lidi. V praci je sledovano, jak senioři participuji na různých sferach spolecnosti, a to jednak na urovni postojů a hodnot, a jednak na urovni skutecneho jednani. Tj. jsou senioři meně ci vice aktivni než mladsi lide a je možne tuto odlisnost vysvětlit pravě jejich starnutim (efekt věku), nebo jde spise o rozdilnost generacni/kohortni a musime pak ocekavat, že si mladsi kohorty zachovavaji podobnou miru participace, jako maji v soucasnosti? Cela prace je ramovana konceptem aktivniho starnuti, který je v soucasnosti dominantnim diskurzem starnuti. Vychazime z původni definice Světove zdravotnicke organizace, ktera aktivni starnuti chape jako celoživotni proces a zdůrazňuje význam participace na vsech sferach spolecnosti. Upozorňujeme vsak i na znacnou normativnost konceptu.

The Active Ageing Index (AAI) and its Relation to the Quality of Life of Older Adults

The goal of Active Ageing Index (AAI) is to improve the quality of life (QoL) of older adults; therefore, this chapter analyses the relation between activity and QoL, specifically on testing the connection between the AAI, its indicators and subjective well-being, both at a general level and at the level of individual EU countries. The results of correlation coefficients and PCA showed a significant correlation but also some problematic indicators. Employment has been identified as the exception among other dimensions having a significant position in the index, but the results cast doubts on its relationship with QoL. Putting significance on employment leads to overestimation of the position of countries which despite considerable employment rate are behind other countries in other indicators and leading to a number of unintended consequences.

Older Adults and Civic Engagement in Rural Areas of the Czech Republic

Abstract Older adults represent a specific group of political and civic actors. In one line of argument, the growing number of people over 65 is gaining stronger voice and representation, and plays a stronger role in social, economic and political life and changes in societies. Another approach points to the social exclusion of older adults and their “oppressed voices”. Using a representative survey of the Czech rural population age 60+, Quality of Life of Seniors in Rural Areas (2016), we looked at the level and forms of civic engagement of older adults and their perceptions in rural areas. We found these attitudes associated with the “locus of control” as an indicator of agency and with place attachment. Some sociodemographic characteristics (being younger, having higher education) increase the probability of older adults’ civic participation in rural areas. The results enhance our knowledge on rural social networks in later life and point to untapped potential of older adults in the local contexts.

Resilience as a Factor of Longevity and Gender Differences in Its Effects

Various explanations for longevity and mortality differences have been repeatedly tested and discussed in the context of worldwide population ageing. This study contributes to this fi eld of research by testing the potential of resilience as a capacity to adapt in the face of adversity through individual and social resources and is the fi rst European study to investigate how resilience predicts survival in later life. Panel data from the Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe are used to determine the predictors of survival among people over the age of 75 between waves 1, 2, 4, and 5. The results of a multilevel logistic regression show that resilience is a strong predictor of survival among the oldest old and that this is true even when controlling for the amount and severity of adversity. Resilience is found on its own to be a stronger predictor of survival in women, while the amount and severity of adversity is more important in men. Resilience is therefore found to be an important factor in longevity and survival in later life and the stronger effect of resilience in women can partly explain the ‘gender paradox’. To sum up, resilience is observed to be protective against decease, especially through the use of social resources, which are stronger among women and which are not measured in most traditionally used resilience scales.

The Fourth Age as a Specific Field for the Expression of Agency

Koncept ctvrteho věku byl jen donedavna opomijeným tematem socialni gerontologie, ktera se předevsim v poslednich dekadach sveho vývoje zevrubněji věnovala věku třetimu. Tento text představuje přehled použivaných definic ctvrteho věku a soustředi se zejmena na ty z oblasti kulturni gerontologie, ktere jej nevnimaji jako nevyhnutnou životni etapu, ale jako obdobi, který se muže ale nemusi týkat některých seniorů. Text podrobněji diskutuje předevsim otazku agency ve ctvrtem věku, možnosti jeji existence, a podoby, kterých může nabývat. Zpochybňuje přitom představu o nemožnosti akterstvi ve ctvrtem věku a nabizi jeho podobu, ktera vychazi ze vztahových definic agency. Připomina take problematicnost chapani nezavislosti (nejen) v kontextu pokrocileho staři. Text dale upozorňuje na riziko větsi polarizace staři, ktere skrýva v soucasnosti v kulturni gerontologii dominantni koncept třetiho věku a přeneseni vsech negativnich stereotypů staři na ctvrtý věk. V zavěru připomina problematicnost možnosti aktivniho starnuti ve ctvrtem věku.
