Dual Bus as a Method for Data Interchange Transaction Acceleration in Distributed Real Time Systems

Andrzej Kwiecień; Marcin Sidzina

The chapter presents considerations on data interchange acceleration method in distributed control systems by the use of dual data transmission line. The method is based on the construction of a system based on two buses: one with separated master bus and the other one with separated slave bus.

The Concept of Using Multi-protocol Nodes in Real-Time Distributed Systems for Increasing Communication Reliability

Andrzej Kwiecień; Marcin Sidzina; Michał Maćkowski

The paper presents the considerations on the method which enables to accelerate the exchange of data in distributed control system, using multi-protocol nodes. The method presented in this paper is related to hardware and software, and based on new original communication protocol, which is used by the node for supporting various communication protocols to simultaneous data exchange via different buses. This method will enable to increase not only network bandwidth, but also the security of data transmission.

The Algorithms of Transmission Failure Detection in Master-Slave Networks

Marcin Sidzina; Błażej Kwiecień

Authors present considerations on data interchange acceleration method in distributed control systems using dual data transmission line. The method is focused on the construction of a system based on two buses. However bus failure detection is very important in this method, because in such a case transmission on two buses must be stopped. From this point of view, failure detection is a fundamental goal. In article, authors intend to describe in general the problem and to propose some detection algorithms.

The Method of Reducing the Cycle of Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) Vulnerable “to Avalanche of Events”

Andrzej Kwiecień; Marcin Sidzina

Reducing the cycle duration of PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) is one of the methods for increasing the access frequency of nodes in the real time distributed system into the transmission medium. The authors presents in this paper one of the methods developed by themselves for a rather specific use of a cases of avalanche of events.

Influence of Electromagnetic Disturbances on Multi-network Interface Node

Andrzej Kwiecień; Michał Maćkowski; Jacek Stój; Marcin Sidzina

The main idea presented in the paper focuses on testing behavior of multi-network interface node while electromagnetic disturbances in transmission line occur. Such node is able to unload an increased traffic in network or provide the security of transmission, especially in cases of temporary overloads, system failure – damage of transmission system, or events occurring in industry area. The authors marked the potential possibilities of using equipment for EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) measurements in the process of testing and simulating the real threats (disturbances) that may appear in the object. The final results point out the correct work of developed query distributor system and the opportunities of automatic adjustment of the network topology in case of electromagnetic disturbances.

Research of Failure Detection Algorithms of Transmission Line and Equipment in a Communication System with a Dual Bus

Błażej Kwiecień; Marcin Sidzina

The paper presents the results of empirical tests, which examine the algorithm of failure detection in transmission line or network node in dual bus system. The implemented algorithm is the base that use the second bus for parallel data transmission. It also presents the research results, which refer to measuring the duration of basic transaction in the network system, duration of the bus failure detection A(B) and slave station failure.

Industrial Implementation of Failure Detection Algorithm in Communication System

Błażej Kwiecień; Marcin Sidzina; Edward Hrynkiewicz

The paper presents the results of empiric research into testing software algorithm for failure detection of transmission line and network node in industrial communication system. After implemented this algorithm in PLC the results referring to measurements of duration of basic transaction in a system and duration of failure detection on bus A (B) and Slave station were presented.

Data Security in Microprocessor Units

Andrzej Kwiecień; Michał Maćkowski; Marcin Sidzina

Protection of computer systems from an unauthorized access to the classified information is a very essential issue. Security of IT systems can concern various aspects, such as software security, connected with ensuring its confidentiality, as well as preventing its modification. Thanks to the developed methods, it is possible to analyze the program code based on the disturbances of voltage supply, which occur during the execution of the program. Moreover, it also enables to recognize the numbers of bits changes on microcontroller data bus, as a result of realized instruction. In such context, it can constitute a potential threat for data processed by microcontroller program or embedded systems. The presented method is very similar to simple power analysis method, which is very effective in relation to cryptographic algorithms, whose execution in many cases depends on processed data. The results indicate that presented method is an effective and low-cost attack, due to its simplicity in many real applications. Moreover, the research results inspire to study carefully the ways and methodology for developing software and hardware, which should reduce the possibility of software reverse engineering.

Utilization of Redundant Communication Network Throughput for Non-critical Data Exchange in Networked Control Systems

Andrzej Kwiecień; Michał Maćkowski; Jacek Stój; Dariusz Rzonca; Marcin Sidzina

Redundancy is the main method for achieving high reliability level in networked control systems NCSs. It is often applied in network interfaces in order to maintain operability of communication subsystems even when faults occur. In most cases, redundant communication buses realize exactly the same functionality as the initial non-redundant bus. That makes the system more reliable but the additional throughput of the redundant buses is not exploited even if the system condition would allow it. The idea of taking advantage of that throughput had made the authors to work on multi-network interface node which on the other hand maintain the high reliability of the communication subsystem, and on the other, makes it possible to manage the additional communication resources more efficiently, and therefore increases some parameters of the communication network.
