This article aims to discuss the history of knowledge production in the field of Social Psychology in Brazil about risk and social vulnerability by means of an archeo-geneologic analysis. The research involved an analysis of documents produced by working groups from the field of Social Psychology that were presented at symposiums of the National Association of Postgraduate Research in Psychology in the period from 1988 to 2010. On the basis of the working group discussions about knowledge production, it is possible to perceive and discuss how knowledge about risks and social vulnerability has supported practices in public policies in the field of Social Psychology.

The following paper aims at problematizing the Brazilian Social Psychology and its knowledge production, based on the registers of the Work Group (WG) of the National Association of Research and Post-Graduation in Psychology (ANPEPP), between 1988 to 2010. Using Michel Foucault’s archeo-genealogical perspective and the contributions by Ian Hacking about the historical ontology of subjects, we analyzed the technologies of power and knowledge which are shaped in the different disciplines of Social Psychology and which, with a scientific legitimacy, emancipate subjects. The different types of knowledge relative to Social Psychology in the history of the ANPEPP’s WGs contribute to the constitution of categories and psychological classifications which objectivize subjects. We seek to accentuate the productive character of Social Psychology; that is, the very criticisms and problematizations related to psychological and social concepts comprise a set of practices and regimes of truth about the subject of Social Psychology.

This article uses the philosophical concepts of Henri Bergson (namely duration, intelligence, and intuition), in order to problematize ways of thinking about psychology, and how psychology produces knowledge. From this perspective, we discuss psychology as a scientific discipline and examine the differences between science and philosophy. In so doing, we deepen the understanding of the concepts of duration, time, and space, in relation to the logics of spatialized time which influence analysis in Human Sciences. We also discuss differences between ways of apprehending knowledge through intelligence and intuition, causing a change in the perspective from which we approach our objects of investigation. Finally, we propose a view of psychology in terms of duration.

Our goal is to discuss the history of creating new objects in the field of brazilian social Psychology, particularly the processes of urbanization, globalization, computerization of society and its interfaces with subjectification processes. This discussion is the result of a research done on the abstracts of the Proceedings of the Symposium of the National Association for Research and Graduate Studies in Psychology (Anais dos Simposios da Associacao Nacional de Pesquisa e Pos-Graduacao em Psicologia - ANPEPP), covering the period 1988-2010. Our methodology proposes a genealogy of Brazilian social Psychology. We use the Foucauldian perspective on history, knowledge and subjectiveness as theoretical and analytical tools. From this analysis, we affirm the possibility of a history of Brazilian social Psychology that is not written by its great representatives or theoretical aspects, but by establishing new problems, objects and fields of intervention. In this sense, we seek to accompany the formation of its multiple objects and perspectives, not pointing out the non-linearity of its development, but its controversies and ruptures.
