Flexible benchmarking: a new reference model

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to describe and propose a new way to do benchmarking. It describes an explanatory case study whereby data are collected through an internet benchmarking system with multi-criteria performance. Design/methodology/approach – The research methodology was to conduct a literature review on international journals about evolution, typology and trends of benchmarking. Through a third year case study of Internet Benchmarking and Monitoring System of Productive Arrangements System the authors describe and propose a flexible benchmarking model. Findings – The paper provides empirical insights about a new model of flexible benchmarking taking into account different demands, whereby partners’ data are collected and processed according to their needs. Industrial Performance Assessment Through the Application of a Benchmarking and Monitoring System

The purpose of this paper is to describe a multiple criteria benchmarking and monitoring system for assessing the performance of industrial sectors. The referred system was designed for comparing and monitoring companies’ performance against market requirements. As an illustration, data collected during a three-year period for a specific local productive arrangement of Ceara, Brazil are showcased. The findings indicate the opportunities and needs for collective strategic actions by the companies and sectors in order to promote local development.

Análise do arranjo produtivo de cerâmica vermelha da cidade de Russas-CE através do SIMAP

O acirramento competitivo mostra que as antigas praticas de gestao nao estao mais sustentando as empresas. Nesse contexto, foi desenvolvido um sistema de monitoramento de arranjos produtivos (SIMAP), com o intuito de fazer um benchmarking entre as empresas e encontrar os seus gaps tecnologicos. Assim, o presente trabalho objetiva analisar as empresas do arranjo produtivo local (APL) de cerâmica vermelha de Russas-CE com o SIMAP identificando o seu posicionamento competitivo atraves do Sistema de Monitoramento de Arranjos Produtivos. Para tanto, foi realizado um survey em uma amostra de 18 empresas desse APL e aplicado o modelo de acompanhamento do SIMAP. Com isso, foram gerados graficos para avaliar o APL de cerâmica vermelha de Russas-CE. Observou-se que em relacao aos setes sistemas de gestao: Sistema Integrado de Gestao, Gestao da Producao, Gestao de Produtos, Gestao Estrategica, Gestao de Logistica, Gestao de RH e Gestao Financeira, avaliados atraves do SIMAP, as empresas ceramistas apresentam baixo nivel de desenvolvimento das ferramentas de gestao.

Monitoring Methodology for Productive Arrangements (Supply Chain)

It was observed that there are not any systems to productive arrangement monitoring. This monitoring is very important because it indicates how the supply chains are developing over the time. Due to this concern, it was developed a system to do this work based on management subsystems. It was identified seven subsystems which contemplate the management systems inside the organizations. When these systems are monitored, it can be observed where there are opportunities to improve all supply chain links. The methodology is being tested in seven regional production chains and has shown promising results.
