UNLABELLED The importance of post-mastectomy physical training lies in the prevention of joint limitation, lymphedema, postural alterations, muscle fibrosis or tissue adherence to the surgical area. OBJECTIVE To identify beliefs on physical training practice, perceptions of barriers and benefits in a group of mastectomized women, in accordance with the Health Beliefs Model. SAMPLE 30 women assisted at a specialized rehabilitation service for mastectomized women. PROCEDURE A questionnaire was applied with questions concerning knowledge and perceptions on physical training practice, as well as its benefits and barriers. CONCLUSIONS The studied group perceived a set of benefits, while the lack of willpower was the most mentioned obstacle; knowledge on the importance and need for physical training with the presence of a professional and family support were the most mentioned incentives.O exercicio fisico pos-mastectomia e importante para prevencao da limitacao articular, linfedema, alteracoes posturais, fibrose muscular ou aderencia tecidual da area cirurgica.

Resumen This study aimed to identify the necessary information to develop an educational material to assist women in preoperative surgery to treat breast cancer. For the construction, women with the diagnosis of breast cancer and who underwent surgery for the first time in up to six months were interviewed. 51 women aged between 25 and 84 years were included, 32 had a partner, 26 had incomplete elementary school, 24 considered their occupation as “housewife”, 43.1% underwent mastectomy, and 82.4% performed axillary dissection. They responded to an instrument with socio demographic data and questions concerning the information/guidance which they received from health team about types of surgery, hospitalization, anesthesia, use of drain and complications. For the preparation of the educational material, knowing this reality and the expectations of subjects are indispensable to prioritize the needs of clients and not only therapeutic requirements.

The aim was to characterize and locate the pain in women who received breast cancer treatment. The study has an exploratory-descriptive character with a quantitative approach, undertaken through measures of central tendency and percentages. The research was undertaken in the Center for Teaching, Research and Assistance in the Rehabilitation of Mastectomized Women, with 30 women. Data was collected in February - August 2008, using an instrument containing variables able to characterize and locate the pain. The data was treated using means, medians, mode, standard deviation and percentages. It stood out that 56.7% of the women mentioned that the pain is daily, 46.7% of the women mention that the pain began after the breast surgery, and that for 40% the pain is constant. Knowledge, recognition and management of the symptom allow alternative therapeutic options for pain relief, minimizing physical and emotional effects which may be caused in the lives of women who receive breast cancer treatment.

Objectives: To identify the reactions of the venous network and investigate the prevalence and characteristics of these reactions in women with breast cancer during chemotherapy treatment. Methods: It were evaluated 339 records of women undergoing chemotherapy, from 2003 to 2007. Results: During neo-adjuvant and adjuvant treatments (17.1% and 22.4%) the women presented several occurrences, the most common were: external infiltration, pain and alteration in skin color. The neo-adjuvant treatments most often cited were: use of cold packs (2.9%) and subcutaneous application of local glucocorticoid (3.5%), and the adjuvants were: local subcutaneous application of hydrocortisone (3.2 %), implementation of external infiltration protocol (6.2%) and use of ice packs (7.1%). Conclusion: The recording of occurrences and the nursing report are essential to supervise the venipuncture sites used during chemotherapy; also it is recommended measuring and record photographically the place of puncture.ABSTRACT Objectives: To identify the reactions of the venous network and investigate the prevalence and characteristics of these reactions in womenwith breast cancer during chemotherapy treatment. Objective: To characterize the socio-demographic profile of women with breast cancer who present neoplastic wounds, and to identify the dressings used most for treating these wounds. Methods: This study has a quantitative approach, is cross-sectional and retrospective. The data was collected through a review of hospital records of women with breast cancer in the period 2000-2011. Results: The sample was constituted of 62 women with a mean age of 55.4 years old; 75.8% were white, 55% had invasive ductal carcinoma and 27.4% were in clinical stage IIIb. Of the deaths recorded, 27% occurred in less than 1 year after the appearance of the wound. The symptoms recorded were pain (32.2%), bleeding (35%) and necrosis (21%). The products used were silver sulfadiazine (23%) and Essential Fatty Acid (EFA) (16.1%). Conclusion: The results point to a lack of systematization of nursing care related to oncological wounds in this service.
