This was a descriptive study with a qualitative approach that aimed to understand how nursing professionals (nurses and technicians) perceive the humanization policy within the scenario of an intensive care unit (ICU) and their importance in this process. It was developed in a private institution in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, with 18 participants. Data were gathered through a structured interview. Issues relating to elements and characteristics that define humanization came out from the analysis, along with questions present within the process that facilitate it or cause difficulties. It was concluded that empathy, respect and value recognition are essential elements and that nursing professionals believe that they can make a difference in the process of humanization, with a view to improvements in care practices based on ethics, dialogue and the autonomy of patients, their family and the nursing team.

Regarding the use of helmet at the time of the accident, 51.6% used, 6.4% did not use, 17.6% used it inappropriately, and there were no records in 24.5%. Among the 51.6% of motorcyclists who used the protective gear, 86.6% had mild craniocerebral trauma, 12.4% had moderate, and 1% severe. The most serious injuries occurred in motorcyclists in which there were no records on helmet use. Conclusion The motorcyclists who used the helmet, had mild craniocerebral trauma in 44.7% of cases, moderate trauma in 6.4%, and severe trauma in 0.5%. This study aimed to assess the prevalence of patients discharged from the hospital into the community with sequelae or special needs requiring follow-up care after the discharge. This was a retrospective prevalence study conducted in an emergency hospital focused on the records of 1,794 hospital discharges occurred between January and March of 2014. The sample consisted of 19 discharge records of patients who presented sequelae or disability, representing 1.6% of the 1,180 discharges that took place in the community. Results showed 84.2% of male patients; mean age of 37.6 years and with diverse sequelae such as: motor 68.3% (n = 13); motor and neurological 5.3% (n = 1); neurological 15.8% (n = 8); pulmonary 5.3% (n = 1); and metabolic 5.3% (n = 1). Although the identified prevalence of patients with sequelae or special needs in the sample was low, this number is significant when it is verified that 73.9% of patients were aged between 10 and 49 years representing young people at their potential productive ages. This study aimed to assess the prevalence of patients discharged from the hospital into the community with sequelae or special needs requiring follow-up care after the discharge.
