This work is a reflection of the search for a definition of current guidelines for outlining studies on the assistance to the childs and school-age adolescents health based on current literature and on the discussion among professionals in the fields of Health and Education. The guidelines: Assistance to the childs and school-age adolescents health; Education, Health and Society - current historical transformation; Health, Education and Life Conditions lead to the following questions: how to promote the childs and school-age adolescents health within the principles of the Unified Health System (SUS) and how to deal with issues such as Health and Education in an inter-sectorial, multi-professional and interdisciplinary fashion by taking into account the New National Curricular Standards? O presente estudo tem como objetivo identificar e analisar o significado do fracasso escolar para os atores sociais que utilizam o Programa de Assistencia Primaria de Saude Escolar - PROASE (familiares, profissionais da educacao e da saude) que atuam no Programa, articulando o discurso desses atores com o oficial, visando subsidiar acoes futuras para o Programa. O nosso estudo utiliza como referencial teorico, a pesquisa qualitativa, fundamentada em MINAYO (1992). Foi escolhida uma area em que o PROASE desenvolve suas atividades e, atraves da tecnica de entrevista semi-estruturada e analise de documentos, foi possivel conhecer como os tres segmentos, que fazem parte da amostra, entendem o significado do fracasso escolar.
