The objectives of the study were to characterize the activities developed by the health professionals, especially the nurses, in the performance of the family planning program; to analyze health professionals behavior concerning integration of men in these activities and, to discuss the ethical dimension of the behavior toward the integration of men in the Program. The methodological approach was qualitative, the study is descriptive and the method is dialectic, using the discourse analysis. Nine health professionals, included in the public health scenery, have participated in the study. It was observed that the policy of bringing men to the center of discussion in the Family Planning groups is patent in the Program proposal, but, in practice, is a failure. The nurses and social assistants, during the educational performance, live with limits and possibilities and, the more they live that dialectic tension, the more they will be prepared to overcome those situations of difficult solution.

Introduction: This article focuses on revealing the phenomenon of perception of the nursing care given to patients undergoing palliation before death. Aims: To understand the perceptions of nursing team members of palliative care in oncology from the phenomenological perspective of Maurice Merleau-Ponty; To indicate the implications of this perception for nursing practice. Method: A descriptive study with a quantitative approach based on the theoretical and methodological perspective of Merleau-Pontys phenomenology. The technique of open interviews was used, with 21 nurses from a private cancer care institution. Results: Palliative care presents a challenge for the nursing team, as it involves an intersubjective meeting between professionals and the patient in a terminal condition. Comfort measures constitute the foundations for excellent, humanized care. Conclusion: We emphasize the importance of valuing the humanity of patients through actions aimed at the humanization of health practices.Introduction: This article focuses on revealing the phenomenon of perception of the nursing care given to patients undergoing palliation before death. OBJECTIVE examine the social representations of citizenship by inpatients receiving hospital care. METHOD qualitative approach, using the Theory of Social Representations as a framework, with 31 inpatients in the internal medicine sector of a public university hospital. Semi-structured interviews were conducted, whose data were submitted to the Alceste program, with application of lexical analysis. RESULTS patients understand their rights, and citizenship in the care process is understood based on the right to health, to receive good care from a technical and human standpoint. CONCLUSION being well treated as a person and the provision of technical-procedural care are rights of patients; the absence of one or the other implies, therefore, lack of respect for their citizenship.

Objectives: To identify and analyze nursing care practices that affect ethical and professional values in intensive care. Methods: A qualitative and descriptive study was conducted in 2011 with 21 nurses from the Intensive Care Unit of a public hospital in the city of Rio de Janeiro, based on the Hans Jonass ethic of responsibility framework. The observation of practices was carried out during 150 hours, followed by extensive description, and 21 individual interviews, in which thematic content analysis was applied. Results: The distancing of nurses from direct care and their preference for providing care to sedated patients due to their low demand for attention and presence were found. Conclusion: The distancing from patients and direct care affects the ethical and responsible behavior of nurses and their ethical and professional values, resulting in negligence of the concept of person that forms the basis of the nursing metaparadigm.
