We experienced a family with hereditary ankyloglossia complicated by heterochromia irides and a congenital clasped thumb. This is considered to be a rare case because, to our knowledge, there have been no published reports on such cases of hereditary complications to date.

Experimental Studies on the Effects of Fluoridation on Rats with Experimentally Induced Glomerulonephritis

Abstract The influence of fluoride ingestion on rats with glomerulonephritis has been investigated. Thirty-day-old Wister rats were given nephrotoxin, and five days later, were provided 10 ppm F (as NaF solution) and maintained for 100 days. During the experimental period, body weight, occurrence of mottled enamel in the incisors, and urine and blood chemistry were studied. At the end of the experimental period, the animals were sacrificed, and studied for the presence of dental caries in molars, and the fluoride contents of incisors, molars, mandibles, tibias, and several soft tissues were determined. Histological examinations were performed on some organs. No significant differences in blood chemistry or in histopathology of soft tissues, except the kidney, were observed between the rats with renal disease and the controls. A decrease in body weight was noted in the early stage of the experiment. Furthermore, nephritic animals given drinking water supplemented with 10 ppm F showed a markedly elevated fluoride level in the hard tissues.
