ZrOCl2·8H2O: An Efficient Catalyst for One-Pot Synthesis of α-Amino Phosphonates Under Solvent-Free Conditions

Mayur J. Bhanushali; Nitin S. Nandurkar; Sachin R. Jagtap; Bhalchandra M. Bhanage

Abstract A highly efficient protocol has been developed for the three-component reaction of an amine, an aldehyde, and diethyl phopshite catalyzed by ZrOCl2·8H2O, an environmentally friendly catalyst, at ambient temperature. The catalyst exhibited remarkable activity and tolerated a wide variety of functional groups, providing the desired amino phosphonates in excellent yields under solvent-free conditions. Alternatively, the reaction rate can be significantly enhanced by carrying out the reaction in a monomode microwave reactor as a promoter.

Synthesis of Sterically Hindered 1,3‐Diketones

Nitin S. Nandurkar; Mayur J. Bhanushali; Dinkar S. Patil; Bhalchandra M. Bhanage

Abstract An efficient and practical method for the synthesis of sterically hindered aliphatic/aromatic 1,3‐diketones via coupling of ketones with esters using potassium tert‐butoxide is described. The protocol requires milder operating conditions, and the products are obained in good to excellent yields.

Y2O3 thin films were deposited on Si (111) and s.s. substrates by microwave electron cyclotron resonance (ECR) plasma metal organic chemical vapour deposition (MOCVD) using a Y(thd)3 (thd = 2,2,6,6,-tetramethyl-3,5-heptanedionate) precursor at a substrate temperature of 450 C. The deposited coatings were characterized by x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). From the observed binding energies of the photoelectrons Y 3d5/2, Y 3d3/2 and O 1s, deposition of Y2O3 coating on the substrates is confirmed. Along with Y2O3 some carbon deposition is also seen. Oxygen plasma annealing of the deposited coatings with increase in the substrate temperature shows reduction in the carbon content in the coating. Details regarding deposition experiments, effects of oxygen plasma annealing and characterization of coatings are discussed in this paper.

Ultrasound‐Assisted Synthesis of β‐Enaminonitriles in the Presence of Base

Sachin R. Jagtap; Mayur J. Bhanushali; Nitin S. Nandurkar; Bhalchandra M. Bhanage

Abstract Application of ultrasound shows significant rate enhancement for the synthesis of β‐enaminonitriles in the presence of base. The role of various homogeneous and heterogeneous bases/solvents was also studied for the reaction, and potassium t‐butoxide/t‐butyl alcohol combination was found to give the best result at room temperature.

Ultrasound assisted regioselective sulfonation of aromatic compounds with sulfuric acid

Ziyauddin S. Qureshi; Krishna M. Deshmukh; Sachin R. Jagtap; Nitin S. Nandurkar; Bhalchandra M. Bhanage

A simple and convenient methodology for selective sulfonation of aromatic compounds using sulfuric acid under sonication is described. The present methodology shows a considerable enhancement in the reaction rate along with improved selectivity compared with the reactions performed under silent conditions. The effect of various parameters such as agitation speed, sulfuric acid concentration, and temperature on reaction system have been investigated and are explained on the basis of ultrasonically generated cavitational effects.
