Observação participante em estudos de administração da informação no Brasil

Gustavo Abib; Norberto Hoppen; Paulo Hayashi Junior

Given the impact caused by the use of information and communication technologies in organizations in their economic and social environment, an increase can be observed in the study about social phenomena. Among the research methods that permit studying these phenomena in depth, participant observation stands out. It enables the researcher to obtain information about the field as an insider, permitting a view of details and of the sequence of events. Since the use of participant observation in studies of Information Management (IM) in Brazil is still incipient, this paper presents essential elements of the method, its main benefits, its difficulties and challenges faced for its adoption. For such, empirical studies of IM that adopted participant observation and a research experience with 12 months in the field were analyzed, discussing the lessons learned and presenting suggestions for promoting the adoption of participant observation in IM research.Given the impact caused by the use of information and communication technologies in organizations in their economic and social environment, an increase can be observed in the study about social phenomena. The Structure of Organizational Virtual Social Networks

Debora Bobsin; Norberto Hoppen

Organizational virtual social networks (OVSN) reshape social structures due to their ability to strengthen social ties, to change power relations and to enable new forms of cooperation. Research in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) has led to various approaches that analyze the impact of OVSN on organizations in terms of structure and behavior. Our study aims to analyze important features related to the structure of OVSN. It also aims to strengthen a network approach to analyze organizational phenomena such as working groups and connected individuals, as well as the impact of online networks in organizations. This study was based on the approaches described by Oinas-Kukkonen et al. [J. Assoc. Inf. Syst. 11(2), 61–68 (2010)] and on the research carried out by Bobsin and Hoppen [Estruturacao de Redes Sociais Virtuais em Organizacoes: um estudo de caso. In: XXXVI Encontro da ANPAD, Rio de Janeiro (2012)] to understand the process of structuring OVSN. Our main result is an OVSN structure consisting of actors and roles, interactions, operating elements and articulating goals. We also analyzed structural elements of networks which may contribute to the development of a network based approach to study organizational phenomena.

Uma Metodologia para Implementação da Gestão por Processos em Organizações Públicas

Angela Freitag Brodbeck; Norberto Hoppen; Debora Bobsin

Organizations are embedded in an economic and social complex environment. In order to qualify their outcomes, they continuously search for new management practices. Process Management is one of these practices. Its goal is to integrate processes, people and technology in order to increase the quality of services (and products) produced. Process Management influences organizational structures and management, and it requires a clear understanding of what makes the organization work well. In this context, our study aims to develop a methodology to implement Process Management in public organizations. These organizations are subject to requirements to improve strategies and processes to manage and foster accountability to citizens who use their services. In order to achieve the proposed objective, we adopted the design research method, applied to two case studies. The methodology we structured is based on conceptual models and consists of steps supported by management tools. Our main contributions are the structuration and evaluation of a Process Management methodology adapted for public organizations and the description of the adoption of design research in research concerning processes and its management.

INVESTIMENTOS EM TECNOLOGIA DA INFORMAÇÃO: UM ESTUDO BIBLIOMÉTRICO EM EVENTOS E PERIÓDICOS BRASILEIROS

Antônio Ricardo Monteiro Marinho; Luiz Felipe Jostmeier Vallandro; Norberto Hoppen

Technological advances and the need for monitoring of business processes have contributed to making investments in information technology (IT). This article aims to analyze the evolution of studies on investments in IT in Brazil from 2003 to 2013.Through a bibliometric survey made on Brazilian academic proceedings and the most important management and IT journals, we analyzed 72 articles with IT investments as its central theme. In these articles we identified the proposed objectives, the research methods adopted and the main results obtained. We categorized the 72 articles into eight subjects related to IT investments. The highest number of studies concerns the influencing factors of IT investments, and these factors are related mainly to people involved in the decision-making process and users of IT. The second most researched subject deals with the relationship between IT investment and organizational performance, with articles presenting the benefits generated by IT investments. As main contributions, our study mapped the most important subjects researched concerning IT investments and detected important gaps, as IT value.
