The life cycle of ERP extended the phases of the life cycle of systems, as stated by the Systems Theory. After ERP systems were introduced in the market under the conception of “packaged products”, phases like selection and acquisition started to compose their life cycle. Since then, a larger group of stakeholders - such as software suppliers, consultants and governmental entities or partners - becomes involved in the process, looking for an ERP system that could assure efficiency, transparency, integrity and trustworthiness of the information, in order to get better performance in decision making. This paper aims to configure the selection, acquisition and implementation process of an ERP system, considering the social groups involved in each phase of this process. Through the application of grounded theory methodology (chronological arrangement, codification of categories and a continuous theoretical saturation) it was possible to configure the process of selection, acquisition and implementation of ERP systems in two case studies. These case studies allowed the emergence of organizational context elements (strategy, culture, and environment), structuring elements (phases and steps) and enabling elements of the process which arose from the social-technical lens of the involved stakeholders. The main academic contribution relies in the use of grounded theory for the composition of the selection, acquisition and implementation process of ERP systems in a systematical way. Empirically, this study contributes by highlighting the trustworthiness and transparency of the process as a whole, assuring the choice, a greater adherence of the product to business requirements and a better use of the resources.

Organizations are embedded in an economic and social complex environment. In order to qualify their outcomes, they continuously search for new management practices. Process Management is one of these practices. Its goal is to integrate processes, people and technology in order to increase the quality of services (and products) produced. Process Management influences organizational structures and management, and it requires a clear understanding of what makes the organization work well. In this context, our study aims to develop a methodology to implement Process Management in public organizations. These organizations are subject to requirements to improve strategies and processes to manage and foster accountability to citizens who use their services. In order to achieve the proposed objective, we adopted the design research method, applied to two case studies. The methodology we structured is based on conceptual models and consists of steps supported by management tools. Our main contributions are the structuration and evaluation of a Process Management methodology adapted for public organizations and the description of the adoption of design research in research concerning processes and its management.

The IT (Information Technology) area has a key role in implementing the strategy of companies, since virtually all of its processes are computerized. Allied to this is the fact that technological change is becoming increasingly complex the IT environment to be managed, so that increases the risks of the investments allocated for IT. Therefore, this article presents a set of IT governance processes aligned with the strategic business goals to a private hospital of medium size (more than 200 beds). For that, interviews were conducted with business executives to identify the IT objectives presented by Cobit framework which were more aligned with the strategic business objectives of the organization, ranking them in order of importance. On the other hand, interviews were conducted with CIO and IT staff to identify the IT governance processes based on Cobit framework that occurs empirically, classifying them by maturity level. These two sets of needs were crossed each other, generating the key IY governance processes to be adopted by the organization. It probably will bring the better return on IT investments and the strategic objectives established in a short-term (those that affect directly the strategic objectives), in a medium-term (implicitly) and long-term (tangential). The main contributions of this research are in data collections procedures used to identify the most appropriate IT governance processes of the organization which can serve as a guide for others applications in practices; and the formalization of a set of OT governance processes appropriate to this specific organization.

Due to legal regulation and corporate governance practices, the majority of multinational companies have complex projects to manage. These organizations have been open to the external environment impacts and changes, and it is necessary to find new ways to management and monitor the business operations. This research looked for the best practices in a project for redesigning the process of product development in a multinational company, which makes electronic components. Two reasons exist: the process is a critical key-process and it needs continuous improvement due to market demands. An action-research was developed using a business process management methodology (BPM) and project management practices (PMBOK) to redesign the process. New Information Technologies were implemented (webEDI, BSC) providing agility, flexibility and control. In addition, the process was evaluated for six months with a maturity level instrument (Capability Maturity Model) and each cycle was measured and compared with process indicators. The main contribution of this research to the company was a new model for the product development process which is optimized and aligned to the business strategic goals.
