Total quality management (TQM) has been considered as an infrastructural strategy in the operations management research field. It is one of the most recognised models for operational excellence besides lean operation, supply chain management, and technology management. Both manufacturing and service organisations tend to implement this strategy in order to maintain their competitive advantage. The purpose of this paper is to develop the conceptual model of TQM implementation in relation to organisational performance. The authors have reviewed the literature on TQM and organised the paper along two main themes: the evolution of TQM considered as a set of practices, and its impacts on organisational performance. Two research questions are proposed in order to re-validate TQM constructs: (1) Is the set of practices associated with TQM valid as a whole? (2) What performance measures should be considered to exhibit the effectiveness of its implementation?

The principal aim of this article is to determine the impact of total quality management (TQM) and ISO/TS16949 efforts on organizational performance of Malaysian automotive industry. Based on theoretical considerations, a model is proposed linking the TQM constructs and ISO/TS16949 efforts to the organizational performance. Exploratory factor analyses and reliability analysis empirically verified and validated the underlying items of TQM, ISO/TS16949 and organizational performance. Structural equation modeling was employed to test the model drawing on a sample of 161 Malaysian automotive industries. Data analysis reveals that, TQM implementations have a strong and positive impact on organizational performance through direct relationship and also through a mediating role of ISO/TS16949 efforts.

In this ever-competitive business environment, the company that can deliver a product that can thoroughly satisfy the manufacturing outputs will attain the most market share. Besides that, cost cutting is key in competing with lower labour cost region in the world. Inability to execute cost reduction programme effectively will result in loss of contract to competitors. In relation to that, lean manufacturing approach offers tools to pursue reduce operational cost through reduction of waste of resource in the manufacturing industry. This paper has attempted to analyse the current production system of the company. The results show that, the company have to redesign the production system in order to satisfy the current needs. They have to setup a new strategy in order to achieve these needs. Based on that, lean manufacturing concept was suggested to the company and several analyses have been done in order to improve the current performance.

The principal aim of this study is to determine the impact of ISO/TS16949 efforts on total quality management (TQM) and the ISO/TS16949 efforts relationship in Malaysian automotive industry. A survey method was employed to collect data using English version for Malaysian respondents. Exploratory factor analysis and reliability analysis empirically verified and validated the underlying items of TQM, ISO/TS16949 and organizational performance. Structural equation modeling was employed to test the proposed model. Data analysis revealed that TQM implementations have a strong and positive impact on organizational performance through direct relationship as well as through a mediating role of ISO/TS16949 efforts. From the research findings, it is viable to recommend that ISO/TS16949 should be incorporated with philosophy and methods of TQM to achieve better performance. This study proved to be valuable to academic researchers as well as automotive practitioners. It systematically analyzes the mediating effect of ISO/TS16949 efforts on TQM and organizational performance relationship.
