This paper presents a five years survey of endoparasitoids obtained from the larvae of frugivorous Tephritidae and Lonchaeidae flies. The insects were reared from cultivated and wild fruits collected in areas of the cerrado in the State of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. The flies obtained from 14 host fruit species were eight Anastrepha species, Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann, 1824) (Tephritidae); Dasiops sp. and Neosilba spp. (Lonchaeidae). Eleven parasitoid species were collected: Braconidae - Asobara anastrephae (Muesebek, 1958), Doryctobracon areolatus (Szepligeti, 1911), D. fluminensis (Costa Lima, 1938), Opius bellus Gahan, 1930 and Utetes anastrephae (Viereck, 1913); Figitidae - Aganaspis nordlanderi Wharton, 1998, Lopheucoila anastrephae (Rhower, 1919), Odontosema anastrephae (Borgmeier, 1935) and Trybliographa infuscata Gallardo, Diaz & Uchoa-Fernandes, 2000 and, Pteromalidae - Spalangia gemina Boucek, 1963 and S. endius Walker, 1839. In all cases only one parasitoid emerged per puparium. D. areolatus was the most abundant and frequent parasitoid of fruit fly species, as was L. anastrephae in Neosilba spp. larvae. This is the first record of A. nordlanderi in the midwestern Brazilian region.

This paper deals with 11 species of Cynipoidea parasitoids of dung-flies in Brazil: Neralsia splendens (Borgmeier 1935), Triplasta (Triplasta) atrocoxalis (Ashmead 1895), Triplasta (Pentaplasta) coxalis (Ashmead 1895), Acantheucoela armata (Cresson 1865), Acantheucoila brevispina Dettmer 1930, Acantheucoila coprophila Borgmeier 1935, Acantheucoila fumipennis Borgmeier 1935, Coneucoela brasiliensis Kieffer 1909, Ganaspis fulvocincta Kieffer 1909, Kleidotoma nigra (Hartig 1840), and Paraganaspis egeria Diaz & Gallardo 1996. An illustrated key for their identification, the hosts and the geographic distribution for each species are also given.

South American Charipinae: Review and Description of Two New Species (Hymenoptera: Cynipoidea: Figitidae)

Juli Pujade-Villar; Norma B. Díaz; Hendrik Harmannus Evenhuis; Palmira Ros-Farré

Abstract The Charipinae have been little studied in the Neotropical region. There are only three species in South America and some identifications are erroneous. In this work, all the species of Charipinae from South America were studied and two new species are described: Apocharips angelicae Pujade-Villar and Evenhuis sp. n. and Alloxysta desantisi Pujade-Villar and Díaz sp. n. New synonyms also are given. Several unusual morphological features of Apocharips angelicae are discussed and illustrated. Finally, we argue that the genera Bothriocynips and Emargo are synonymous.

In this study a total of nine new species of the genus Neralsia are described for South America: N. desantisi Jimenez & Pujade-Villar n. sp., N. equilatera Jimenez & Pujade-Villar n. sp., N. hermafrodita Jimenez & Pujade-Villar n. sp., N. marioi Jimenez & Pujade-Villar n. sp., N. moisesi Jimenez & Pujade-Villar n. sp., N. obelix Jimenez & Pujade-Villar n. sp., N. parafossulata Jimenez & Pujade-Villar n. sp., N. pseudoneralsia Jimenez & Pujade-Villar n. sp. and N. rauli Jimenez & Pujade-Villar n. sp., all of them have in common the low carina separating the scutellar foveae. Other six known Neralsia species, N. albipennis (Kieffer), N. bogotensis (Kieffer), N. flavidipennis (Kieffer), N. fossulata (Kieffer), N. pilosa (Borgmeier) and N. striaticeps (Kieffer) have the same scutellar character. The morphological characters to differentiate all mentioned species are presented.

Systematic Review of Species of the genus Aganaspis Lin (Hymenoptera: Figitidae: Eucoilinae)

Norma B. Díaz; J. A. Guimaraes; Fabiana E. Gallardo

Abstract The type material of Aganaspis species is studied. Two species groups are described: the A. contracta species group (including A. contracta Lin) and the A. daci apecies group (including A. daci Weld, A. ocellata Lin and A. major Lin); A. pelleranoi (Brèthes) and A. nordlanderi Wharton are transfered to another genus. The name Ganaspis pelleranoi is re-established and the new combination Trybliographa nordlanderi is formed.

Fabiana E. Gallardo; Norma B. Díaz; J. A. Guimaraes

ABSTRACT: This paper deals with the identity, geographical distribution and host associations of Dicerataspis species. The authors propose the new synonymy Dicerataspis grenadensis Ashmead, 1896 (= D. flavipes Kieffer, 1909) and redescribe and illustrate D. grenadensis.

Norma B. Díaz; Fabiana Gallardo; C. Dorfey; Andreas Köhler

A new species of Zamischus (Hymenoptera, Cynipoidea, Figitidae) from Brazil. A new species of Zamischus from Brazil is described and diagnosed. The species is closely related to Z. brasiliensis but differs in the morphology of antennae and scutellum. Z. aquilesi sp. nov. was collected via Malaise trapping in a tobacco field in Santa Cruz do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul.
