Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to investigate first, the consumer buying behaviour and claims pattern of medical and health insurance (MHI)/medical and health Design/methodology/approach - The study was conducted on respondents from the insurance industry in Malaysia. Findings - It was found that most claims were rejected due to the discovery of some irregularities by the managed care organizations (MCO) while the Islamic insurers claims experience, was otherwise. During the buying behaviour stage of MHT, there are fewer tendencies to withhold information but during the claiming stage, due to the generous level of compensation and their awareness of the coverage available naturally influence them to submit excessive claims. To a certain extent moral hazard is present when claims are made for longer disability durations than necessary, and having high average claims per person even for shorter duration disabilities. Research limitations/implications - The paper concentrates only on the MHI/MHT in Malaysia. Practical implications - The results provide insights on how the Malaysian insurance industry and other organizations of a similar structure could improve on their business performance. Originality/value - This paper is perhaps one of the first to address adverse selection and its consequences on MHI/MHT in Malaysia.

Using TOE Model, this paper aims to examine drivers of web technology investment in Malaysia service industry using questionnaire survey. The structural equation modelling (SEM) results indicate that firm size, managerial beliefs, and pressure intensity explain the variance in web technology investment. Managerial belief is found to have the function of mediator in the relationship between pressure intensity and web technology investment.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the impact of antecedent factors on collaborative technologies usage among academic researchers in Malaysian research universities. Design/methodology/approach Data analysis was conducted on data collected from 156 academic researchers from five Malaysian research universities. This study employed an extensive quantitative approach of a structural equation modeling method to evaluate the research model and to test the hypotheses. Findings The main findings of this study are that personal innovativeness, task-technology fit, and perceived peer usage are significant predictors of individual usage of collaborative technologies; perceived managerial support and subjective norm were found not to be significant predictors to perceived usefulness and individual usage; and perceived usefulness is a significant mediator to individual usage in that it had fully mediated personal innovativeness whereas partially mediated peer usage. Practical implications The results provide practical insights into how the Malaysian higher education sector and other research organizations of not-for-profit structure could enhance their collaborative technologies usage. Originality/value This research is perhaps the first that concentrates on collaborative technologies usage in Malaysian research universities.

Increasing the export has been an important agenda to many countries as it contributes to economic growth. Exporting is the most common way to expand business and penetrate international market. The role of SMEs in global market has increased which contribute to economic growth of a country. However, SMEs are facing challenges in entering export markets due to limited resources, competition with multinationals, and many other factors. Hence, SMEs must make sure that they are prepared to enter the export market as to minimize the risks of failure in international market. The objective of this paper is to examine export readiness among SMEs in Malaysia as studies have shown that export readiness influenced export performance. Interviews were conducted on eight manufacturing SMEs in Malaysia to examine their perception and level of export readiness. Among the important dimensions to export readiness are motivational factors, management commitment, product consideration, and financial resources. The findings showed that SMEs are motivated and have the intention to enter international market, but their motivations do not necessarily manifested into commitment to export. This study contributes significantly to the theory of export readiness and extends literature on export readiness among SMEs. Further researches are also suggested.

Basis test paths is a method that uses a graph contains nodes as a representation of codes and the lines as a sequence of code execution steps. Determination of basis test paths can be generated using a Genetic Algorithm, but the drawback was the number of iterations affect the possibility of visibility of the appropriate basis path. When the iteration is less, there is a possibility the paths do not appear all. Conversely, if the iteration is too much, all the paths have appeared in the middle of iteration. This research aims to optimize the performance of Genetic Algorithms for the generation of Basis Test Paths by determining how many iterations level corresponding to the characteristics of the code. Code metrics Node, Edge, VG, NBD, LOC were used as features to determine the number of iterations. J48 classifier was employed as a method to predict the number of iterations. There were 17 methods have selected as a data training, and 16 methods as a data test. The system was able to predict 84.5% of 58 basis paths. Efficiency test results also show that our system was able to seek Basis Paths 35% faster than the old system.A single-fed linearly polarized 2x2 microstrip bow tie array antenna is proposed. The feed network has microstrip line and slot line where microstrip-slot branch circuit is connected in parallel. The feed network of the array is designed using both-sided MIC Technology to overcome the impedance matching problem of conventional feed networks. The 2x2 half bow tie array antenna is also truncated with spur lines for optimization of antenna performance. The array antenna unit can be realized in very simple and compact structure, as all the antenna elements and the feeding circuit is arranged on a Teflon glass fiber substrate without requiring any external network. The design frequency of the proposed antenna is 5 to 8 GHz (C-Band) and the obtained peak gain is 12.41 dBi. The resultant axial ratio indicates that linear polarization is achieved. This paper presents a novel method for QRS detection. To accomplish this task ECG signal was first filtered by using a third order Savitzky Golay filter. The filtered ECG signal was then preprocessed by a Wavelet based denoising in a real-time fashion to minimize the undefined noise level. R-peak was then detected from denoised signal after wavelet denoising. Windowing mechanism was also applied for finding any missing R-peaks. All the 48 records have been used to test the proposed method. During this testing, 99.97% sensitivity and 99.99% positive predictivity is obtained for QRS complex detection.

The study investigates the role of organizational image towards level of engagement. The study used primary data which was gathered through 450 survey questionnaires distributed to bankers who are employed in the commercial banks. Distribution of questionnaires was handled through “drop-off” and “pickup” approach. This approach was taken in view of the confidentiality of workplace, practiced by commercial banks. The response rate was 91.8 % whereby 413 responses were gathered from 450 surveys distributed. The data gathered were analyzed, and findings obtained show that organizational image has contributed large unique contribution towards the level of engagement among employees of commercial banks.

ABSTRACT This article investigates the impact of intranet resistance (i.e. co-workers affluence, negative prior experience, efficacy experience, poor systems design and loss of power) on manager’s performance, which indirectly influences intranet withdrawal in Malaysia maritime industry. The structural equation modelling (SEM) results indicate that all intranet resistance factors negatively influence managers’ performance and indirectly influence intranet withdrawal. This is probably the first work that investigate the impact of intranet resistance and withdrawal in Malaysia. The results provide insight on how the Malaysian maritime industry could improve their intranet adoption.
