As implicações da classe II de angle e da desproporção esquelética tipo classe II no aspecto miofuncional

TEMA: esse trabalho foi baseado na tematica de que existe uma associacao entre as mas oclusoes devido a alteracoes do crescimento craniofacial, e, por conseguinte, a existencia de alteracoes miofuncionais. OBJETIVOS: estudar a associacao entre as mas oclusoes tipo classe II desencadeadas por alteracoes do crescimento craniofacial e as disfuncoes do sistema estomatognatico (alteracoes miofuncionais: fala, mastigacao, degluticao e fonacao). CONCLUSAO: pode-se concluir que alteracoes estruturais da face podem ter influencia na funcionalidade das mesmas, portanto, enfatiza-se a importância do trabalho multidisciplinar entre os profissionais envolvidos em cada uma dessas aereas para que o prognostico desses casos seja pertinente de relevantes melhoras.

A relação da postura corporal, da respiração oral e do estado nutricional em crianças: uma revisão de literatura

TEMA: a relacao entre o estado nutricional, a respiracao oral e a postura corporal. Uma alimentacao balanceada capaz de proporcionar um adequado estado nutricional, certamente, contribui para uma desejavel condicao postural e a respiracao nasal do individuo. Sob o aspecto respiratorio, em criancas respiradoras orais por haver maior alteracao no sono, diminuicao da ingestao de carboidratos e aumento da ingestao de lipideos, pode haver a associacao entre a respiracao oral e o estado nutricional tambem. OBJETIVO:apresentar as possiveis relacoes entre estado nutricional, respiracao oral e a postura corporal em criancas, por meio de um estudo teorico. CONCLUSAO: segundo os artigos pesquisados e a obesidade, dentre os disturbios nutricionais, o que gera maior numero de problemas musculoesqueleticos, pois dificulta o controle da postura corporal. Conclui-se que apesar de haver fortes argumentos teoricos buscando explicar uma possivel influencia da respiracao oral sobre o estado nutricional, os estudos de campo ate o momento nao conseguiram confirmar tal hipotese, por esta razao torna-se relevante continuar pesquisando sobre estas relacoes.

Use of chondroitin sulphate and glucosamine sulphate in degenerative changes in TMJ: a systematic review

Introduction: Degenerative changes in Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) have increased in prevalence and severity over the years. Within this context, it’s necessary to obtain safe and effective therapies for control and management of the patient in cases of osteoarthritis and osteoarthrosis of the TMJ. Therapeutic options range from intra-articular infiltration protocols, occlusal splints, pharmacological therapies and physiotherapy and educational measures. The alternative treatment with structure-modifying agents, like as chondroitin and glucosamine sulphates, showed promising results, and especially safety. Thus, through a systematic literature review, this study aimed to analyze and discuss effectiveness and safety of chondroitin and glucosamine in degenerative changes of the TMJ.

A postura corporal e as funções estomatognáticas em crianças respiradoras orais: uma revisão de literatura

Childrens body posture has been studied more and more by physical therapy, as well as mouth breather children have been studied by speech-language-hearing therapy. This study tries to check, through scientific literature, the relationship between stomatognathic functions and body posture in mouth breather children. This is a review of literature on body posture and the stomatognathic system in obstructive and functional mouth breathers. We searched, in electronic data basis such as MEDLINE, SCIELO and LILACS, and Google Scientific, articles related to these topics, published in the last 10. The selected articles were organized according to authors, title, source, age, and publishing year. When related to the type, the studies were considered: literature review articles; descriptive data analysis; field research. After selecting the texts, we identified four studies that relate posture, stomatognathic system and mouth breathing; two studies that relate stomatognathic system and posture; 13 studies relating to the stomatognathic system and mouth breathing. We may perceive that there is a lack of studies correlating body posture and stomatognathic system in oral breathers. The lack is even higher when we compare obstructive oral breathers and vicious oral breathers relating the body posture to the stomatognathic system.

Orthodontics as a therapeutic option for temporomandibular disorders: a systematic review

OBJECTIVE: Orthodontics as an option for treatment and prevention of Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD) is a topic that has generated discussion over time. While an occlusion current defends Orthodontics as an alternative to treatment, another current defends more conservative and reversible treatments. The objective of this study, through a systematic literature review, was to analyze the relationship between Orthodontics and TMD, checking the effects of orthodontic therapy in treatment and prevention of TMD. METHODS: Survey in research bases: MEDLINE, Cochrane, EMBASE, Pubmed, Lilacs and BBO, between the years of 1966 and May 2009, with focus in randomized clinical trials, non-randomized prospective longitudinal studies, systematic reviews and meta-analysis was performed. RESULTS: After application of the inclusion criteria 11 articles were selected, 9 which were non-randomized prospective longitudinal studies, 1 randomized clinical trial and 1 systematic review. CONCLUSIONS: According to the literature, there is a lack of specific studies that evaluated Orthodontics as an option for treatment and prevention of TMD. Thus the data conclude that there is no significant scientific evidences that orthodontic treatment treats or prevents TMD.
