This paper investigates the relationship between job dissatisfaction and labour turnover in the Brazilian labour market using an objective behavioural measure variable of job satisfaction. Following the methodology adopted by Souza-Poza and Souza-Poza (2007, The Journal of Socio-Economics, 36, 895–913), this paper used various econometric techniques (such as multinomial and ordered probit models) in determining whether job satisfaction is a good predictor of future job quits. In general, the results found show the importance of job satisfaction on future mobility, thereby providing another way to analyse job satisfaction, since the measure used minimizes the subjective effects that are associated with psychological factors. This paper investigates the relationship between job dissatisfaction and labour turnover in the Brazilian labour market using an objective behavioural measure variable of job satisfaction. This paper analyzes the influence of unemployment on occupational reinsertion, specifically on the wage earned by the workers who transitioned from unemployment to being employed. Using sample data from Monthly Employment Survey (PME, 2000), from Brazil, and quantile regression techniques, this study provides evidence about the relationship between duration of unemployment and wage loss. The results show a heterogeneous chance to remain unemployed, in favor, mainly, of less qualified workers, and, in addition, wage losses are observed when the employed find a new job (occupational reinsertion). Moreover, in general, workers who have more qualification are more penalized, regardless of the quantile conditional wage distribution they are in, indicating a greater loss for employees in jobs that require higher qualification.

This study seeks to examine the determinants of the duration in employment in all Northeastern states of Brazil for the years 1993 and 2003. In order to do so, we used the data from the National Survey per Residence Samples (PNAD) which is done by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), every year. Results obtained by the parametric model showed that the duration of the relationship of employment is higher for men and older workers. With regard to the regional aspect, it was found that residents in the states of Pernambuco and Bahia - precisely those with the highest unemployment rates - have higher turnover when compared to other northeastern states.

The main goal of this paper is to estimate the reservation wage either for employed, unemployed or economically inactive individuals in Brazil. For this purpose, we use data from the National Household Sample Survey (PNAD) from 2006 and estimate a model of joint determination of labor supply, employment and wages, taking into account a correction of sample selection bias involved in both the workforce participation decision and the job search process. In turn, the reservation wages were estimated by discounting the value of utility for the workforce participation decision from the linear predictions of conditional wages. The finding suggests a positive relationship between reservation wages, education level and aged of workers from different positions on the labor market.

This paper analyses the influence of determinant factors (social capital, lifetime of the project and the stages of the Settlement Projects (PA)) in the total income generated in each settlement of Brazil. Although the Settlement Projects have a national methodology, we try to do a regional approach for the different situations observed. Through the analysis can be seen that both east and south of Brazil have a higher number of PA’s established and an active participation of families in the cooperatives, reflecting the level of organization and more education of these families. This fact may be directly influencing the development of these projects, considering that these regions are also shown as the upper incomes.

English Abstract: This paper aims to examine how the type of owner affects the relationship between compensation and performance in Brazilian companies in the period 2010 to 2013. First, the control in Brazil is still largely exercised by family firms, and that ownership is also concentrated, on average 65% of shares are held by the five largest shareholders. The econometric analysis showed that: The family and the government controlled companies remunerate their managers with a lower value in relation to other types of control; inferences about the influence of the controller in the institutional companies were not possible to make; and firms that don’t have a controller remunerate their manager with a higher amount of compensation. Finally, about performance, in any of the equations ROA was significant, demonstrating weak compensation mechanisms or managers ability to determine their compensation.

The aim of this paper is to discuss the effects of the Bolsa Familia Programme on the Brazilian labour market. The data analysed derive from a sample from the Family Budget Survey, 2008--2009. The descriptive analysis highlights the importance of Bolsa Familia in the composition of families’ income, especially in the case of those families that live in less economically developed regions of Brazil such as North and Northeast, as well as rural areas. The empirical analysis carries out econometric models (Seemingly Unrelated Bivariate Probit model and Instrumental Variables (IV)), and demonstrates both a strong and negative effect of the cash transfer provided by Bolsa Familia on the Brazilian labour market.Abstract The aim of this paper is to discuss the effects of the Bolsa Família Programme on the Brazilian labour market. The purpose of this study is to investigate the academic and professional performance of the masters of Accounting by the Multi-institutional and Inter-Regional Graduate Program in Accounting from Brazil. The findings are in agreement with the Theory of Human Capital. The results indicate that the variables which tried to measure the level of qualification and involvement in researching have proven to be important indicators in determining academic performance. We conclude, therefore, that a masters degree in Accounting influenced positively both the academic and professional activities of the masters graduated. Thus, its importance justifies its dissemination to strengthen the teaching and researching in the whole country.

This paper studies the relationship between employee effort and employment contracts. It starts with the hypothesis that the type of employment contract could result in additional incentives for effort. Using indicators for effort (extra hours of work, salary below the minimum wage and absenteeism) taken from the Monthly Employment Survey (PME) in 2006 and 2007, it was observed that there are significant differences in profile between the workers, according to their contracts. In turn, the estimation results showed that depending on the indicator used to measure the effort of the worker, the effort expended by workers changes. Furthermore, temporary workers tend not to provide extra hours of work and are more likely to receive a salary below the minimum wage. Finally, the estimates made do not indicate a significant change in behavior among workers, when their contracts are modified.
