This work describes the chemical composition of the volatile oil of Hyptis marrubioides cultivated in field and greenhouse. The experimental design was completely randomized, with ten replications for each type of cultivation. The volatile oil was extracted by hydrodistillation and analyzed by GC-MS. The highest content of volatile oil was found for plants grown in field. The highest percentage of the compounds present in oils was observed in samples grown in the field, such as germacra-4(15),5,10(14)-trien-1-α-ol (16.34%), β-caryophyllene (10.42%), γ-muurolene (12.83%) and trans-thujone (9.98%). However, some compounds were found only in plants grown in a greenhouse, such as cis-muurol-5-en-4α-ol (10.84%), α-cadinol (3.06%) and eudesma-4(15),7-dien-1β-ol (6.82%).

Abstract The essential oils from stems and leaves (fresh or dried, and whole or sliced) of Hyptis marrubioides collected from two localities of Brazilian Cerrado were investigated by GC and GC/MS. Caryophylla-4(14),8(15)-dien-5β-ol, eudesma-4(15),7-dien-1β-ol, caryophyllene oxide and β-caryophyllene were the principal constituents. The results were submitted to Principal Component and Cluster analysis which allowed three groups of oils to be distinguished with respect to sampling site and post-harvested process: cluster I (fresh leaves and fresh or dried stems from Lavras site) with high percentage of caryophylla-4(14),8(15)-dien-5β-ol (16.7%) and eudesma-4(15),7-dien-1β-ol (12.8%); cluster II (dried leaves and stems from Tiradentes site) with epi-longipinanol (16.2%) rich oil, and cluster III (dried leaves from Lavras) containing a high content of β-caryophyllene (17.4%) and α-copaene (10.1%). Canonical discriminant analysis showed that is possible to accurately predict 100% well-classification in the original clusters using β-caryophyllene, epi-longipinanol and caryophylla-4(14),8(15)-dien-5β-ol as predictor variables. The whole or sliced plant materials resulted in similar chemical composition.

O manjericao e uma planta medicinal aromatica pertencente a familia Lamiaceae, rica em oleos essenciais e com grande interesse industrial. Objetivou-se, no presente trabalho, estudar a influencia do processamento da folha (inteira e pulverizada) submetida a dois tipos secagem (estufa de ventilacao forcada a 38o C e sala com desumidificador), sobre o teor e composicao quimica do oleo essencial. O delineamento utilizado foi o inteiramente casualizado (DIC), com 4 tratamentos e 6 repeticoes. O oleo essencial foi extraido por hidrodestilacao das folhas e analisado por CG e CG/EM. O tipo de secagem e o processamento da folha do O. basilicum influenciaram no teor e composicao quimica do oleo essencial. Maior porcentagem da area de pico do componente quimico linalol foi obtida quando se realizou o processo de secagem das folhas. A secagem em estufa conservou o aroma e a coloracao verde das folhas, preservando as caracteristicas originais da cultivar.
