In this paper, we propose an agent-based ITS for learning propositional logic using two linked viewpoints and representations to address the problem on checking the validation of a given argument, articulating syntactic and semantic inference approaches. One motivation for this integration comes from the importance to involve students in two complementary viewpoints, permitting students to make connections between the two viewpoints involving different strategies, used in problem solving situations. Basically, the system works by placing students in a problem-solving situation and providing needed knowledge support based on his performance. We discuss the system and show its architecture and functionality, as well as its implementation details. Through scenarios with adequate coverage, we evaluate the value of the proposed approach and conclude that it is feasible and useful.

Noise attenuation plays an important role in seismic data processing and interpretation. In recent years, the anisotropic diffusion filter has received much attention since it has superior performance in edge-preserving while smoothing noise from noisy signals. This work presents a high-performance General Purpose Graphics Processing Unit (GPGPU) structure-preserving smoothing for seismic amplitude data by anisotropic diffusion. The obtained results show that the proposed method runs in iterative time, and is able to remove noise and preserves structural features efficiently. We also compare the computational performance of CPU and GPU implementations and show that GPU is about 14 times faster.

Curvature attributes have been widely used for visualization of folds, flexures, faults, collapse features, among others interesting features in seismic data. This work presents a parallel approach to compute volumetric curvature attributes for seismic data on GPU and CPU (sequential and parallel). We compare the results using different derivative operator size for sequential and the parallel approaches. The results show that for high derivative operator size the parallel approach performed on GPU can achieve further speed up than the other approaches. Also, using the proposed GPU approach, it is possible to visualize volume sections in interaction time.

A multiagent-based ITS using multiple viewpoints for propositional logic

Evandro Costa; Priscylla Silva; Marlos Silva; Emanuele Tuane Silva; Anderson Moreira Aristides dos Santos

This paper reports on preliminary efforts to develop a multi- agent-based Intelligent Tutoring System for teaching propositional logic using two integrated approaches with focus on checking the validation of a given argument. One motivation for this integration comes from the importance to involve students in two complementary viewpoints, permitting students to make connections between the two viewpoints involving different strategies, used in problem solving situations.
