This paper investigates if regional differences are able to influence trust-based relationship with suppliers. It presents the results of a survey of 338 processing plants located in Western and Asian countries using structural equation modeling. Findings suggest that supplier involvement in quality is taken for granted, but it is not related to trust or partnership. Regional differences may also affect the development of partnership in the supply chain. The two main aspects are the levels of trust and timeliness in Asian companies. These aspects bring implications for managers dealing with international supply chains.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to analyze the relationship between supply planning, trust and integration, and the influence of them on operational performance. Design/methodology/approach – The paper used a survey with 335 respondents from three different industries. The paper analyzed the data with structural equation modeling. Findings – The results suggest that supply planning and trust are positively related and both influence supply integration and operational performance. At the end the paper proposed a classification for supply integration based on planning use and trust. Research limitations/implications – The sample is composed by companies from only three industries (machinery, electronics and automobile), what does not allow generalization. Practical implications – Managers are challenged to develop simultaneously supply chain planning practices and trust-based relationship within buyers and suppliers. They must pay attention to different integration drivers and use them accordingly an...

Trade-offs in operations strategy can be defined as the performance incompatibility between two or more different competitive criteria. Customized services imply slower delivery time and high production costs than in standardized services. Considering that customers preferences will affect the strategic decisions about competitive criteria and trade-offs, this research aimed to evaluate customization, delivery speed and low price attributes from the customers perspective, analyzing the trade-offs among them. The literature has put little emphasis on the influence of the customers over trade-offs. In order to assess the importance of each services attribute, a survey was applied to 243 customers a data communication customized service provided by a tellecommunication company. The results indicated that trade-offs analyzed do not present the relations expected, especially between customization and delivery speed. On the other hand, the results suggest that the trade-off between customization and costs is relevant for the service analyzed.

The increasing number of food contamination events has called the attention of both practitioners and scholars to food safety problems and their consequences. Many of these events are related to the supply chain because food production is now a global process of commoditized goods, made by large corporations that purchase inputs from producers in many countries. Given the linkage between supply chain and food safety issues, we investigated how studies in the supply chain management area have examined food safety issues, exploring some of their important characteristics. To do so, we conducted a systematic literature review of 46 papers, published in 23 journals, indexed in the Web of Science database. As a result, we pointed out some main characteristics of these papers, including journal attributes, authorship data, citation network, methodological characteristics, and theoretical approaches. Results serve as a reference to scholars and allow us to discuss some potential opportunities for future research...

The use of mobile technologies is important for Supply Chain Management (SCM) because these technologies allow for a ubiquitous flow of information, higher agility and risk reduction in supply chains. In food markets, these issues are particularly relevant due to food safety risks. The main goal of this paper is to analyze the use of mobile technology for management and risk control in the Brazilian beef supply chain, since Brazil is one of the main producers and beef exporters in the world. The research method was a single case study. Results show the actual level of mobile technology use; drivers and barriers to mobile technology adoption and how mobile technology is applied to beef traceability and risk reduction along the chain. The authors propose a framework that links the issues of mobile technology use for SCM and risk control, considering the context of a developing country such as Brazil.

The collective online shopping is a recent phenomenon in Brazil whose objective is to sell products and services for a minimum number of consumers. This study aims to investigate whether the intensity of collective online shopping is influenced by the aspects consumer interest in online collective shopping, impulse buying and insecurity. The data collection was based on a questionnaire with closed questions with multiple choices and a 5-point Likert scale. The final sample is composed of 143 respondents. Data was analyzed through the following statistic techniques: exploratory data analysis, exploratory factor analysis, reliability analysis, and logistic regression. The results suggest that people more interest in collective shopping are more likely to make collective shopping. People who feel greater insecurity in navigating the website is less likely to make collective shopping. It was observed that there is no a positive relationship between impulse shopping and collective purchasing. Some limitations include the number of constructs and sample characteristics.

This study investigates the influence of new technology anticipation by manufacturing firms on performance. Complementarily, a comparative analysis between Brazilian and plants located in other countries was performed. To test these issues, data was collected from 337 firms located in 11 countries, including Brazil. Key aspects in Operations Management such as manufacturing strategy, functional integration, supply chain management and supplier partnership were considered as relevant for technology anticipation. Results suggest that manufacturing strategy, functional integration, and supplier partnership are important for firms located abroad, while only functional integration is important for Brazilian firms. Finally, there are evidences suggesting a positive relationship between new technology anticipation and operational performance for international and Brazilian firms. This study investigates the influence of new technology anticipation by manufacturing firms on performance. The sense of work is a fundamental issue when we take into consideration that the very labor organization changes constantly, bringing out concerns to the individuals. This article analyzed the meaning of work for the generations X and y. A survey research was conducted with two groups, one belonging to the generation X and another to the generation Y. Characteristics attributed to the generation Y appeared with greater significance among the respondents of the generation X and the similarity of the averages of some answers indicates that the generations share many values, which commonly is not stated.
