Medicinal plants have been used since the dawn of mankind. Vegetable soaps have a greater benefit to human health and the environment, since the chemical composition of the soaps is relatively smaller when compared to commercial soap. In this sense, this work had the objective of making soaps using essences of medicinal plants of the Amazon Region associating with the knowledge in Botany. The work was developed in a full-time school in the municipality of Porto Velho-RO with 120 high school students. The essences of banana, acai, cupuacu and buriti were obtained from free trade shows in Porto Velho-RO. At the school, a pre and a questionnaire was applied in order to get information about the botany in daily life. Then, an oral presentation was made using multimedia resources to perform the work and later, a practical classroom lesson using materials such as: glycerin, essences, natural dye, oven and silicone forms. It was verified that the students understood in a contextualized way the importance of the medicinal plants and their relation with the teaching of Botany, starting to identify that the plants are part of the daily life, thus presenting importance in the area of scientific research

This paper argues for teaching biology projects executed in a public school in Porto Velho-RO, stressing the importance of seeking innovative strategies for teaching and learning, assuming that the teacher is rather able to motivate and overcome obstacles. Thus is described the methodology used to project implementation, the objectives to be achieved and the target audience. Explaining each stage thereof. Since the public schools in Brazil face daily challenges, it is concluded that the projects developed in the discipline of biology at the school to provide favorable conditions for student learning, creating an environment of stimulation, where the teacher is a key part of the motivation for these.

Fusarium oxysporum Schlecht and Thanatephorus cucumeris (A.B. Frank) Donk are fungi which cause some diseases in important plant cultures in Brazil - like bananas and beans. Hedychium coronarium J. Konig is a native plant from Asia that currently occurs in Brazil, where it is used in folk medicine to treat infections in general. The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of the H. coronarium essential oil from leaves on the in vitro growth of F. oxysporum and T. cucumeris colonies. Discs of 5 mm diameter from isolated cultures of each fungi were placed in the center of 90 mm diameter Petri dishes with potato dextrose agar. In the peripheral area of the dishes four discs of filter paper were placed with 10 µL of essential oil, extracted through distillation system. For a control treatment, discs without essential oil were used. A completely randomized design was used with four replications (of four dishes). Every 24 hours for 8 days the fungi growth was evaluated by measuring the diameter of the colonies. After 192 hours F. oxysporum colonies had 37.4 mm diameter in the treatment with essential oil, while in the control the diameter was 66.4 mm. T. cucumeris colonies reached 11.9 mm diameter with essential oil and covered the dishes in the control. The results showed that the essential oil from leaves of H. coronarium has an inhibitory effect on the in vitro growth of F. oxysporum and T. cucumeris , thus suggesting its potential use in agriculture, mainly with respect to banana and bean cultures. Keywords: phytopathology, medicinal plants, biological control.
