Sumatra Island in Indonesia has a high potency of plants diversities. Traditional people have a local wisdom, like using plants extract for pest control which considered as an alternative technique that practical, economical, and environmentally safe. The aim of this study was to do inventory on pest control plants widely used by traditional people in the island. In order to analys the pest control efectivity of the plants, analysis on bioactivities of crude extracts on pest Spodoptera litura was done in invitro scale. The research was carried out in Rejang Lebong District, Bengkulu. Bioactivities test was done in Laboratory of Forest Protection, Palembang Forestry Research Institute. The results revealed as much as 25 species plants potential as biopesticide. Among these plants, 5 species used as fish poison, 17 species used as pesticide, 7 species used as rat poison, and 1 species used as nematode poison. Traditional people in Rejang Lebong District have a long history using these plants regularly to control some pests. Sitawar (Costus speciosus), puar kilat (Globba sp.), and legundi (Vitex trifolia) extracts affected mortalities and inhibitor S. litura development significantly.

Development is a process of environmental and natural resource management for a prosperous of human life. The effort to conservation and prevent pollution or environmental damage includes planning, utilization control, maintenance, supervision and enforcement. one of the instrument is Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). The district Middle of Bengkulu has resources of coal mining. Therefore, the production process can have an impact of environmental especially in protected area. The research was conducted at Middle of Bengkulu on January-February 2016. The purpose of this study are to identify the coal mining activities, analyze the effectiveness from EIA of energy and mine resources in conservation of protected area at Middle of Bengkulu and formulate the policies of effectiveness from EIA implementation in conserving the protected area. The research data obtained through observation, interviews, review of the literature and Geografic Information System ( GIS) analysis to the change of land cover and land use. Weighting or scoring for the quality analysis of documents and the eligibility criteria. The result of analysis shows that the effectiveness of implementation of the EIA depend on attitude of companies. The EIA imlementation is two coal mining companies are still activ, showing that one of these companies has effective working aspects of obedience >90%. In the other companies can be said to be ineffective for many violations. EIA effectiveness of EMR in the conservation of protected areas can not be said to be effective, it is showed by the deteriorating condition of the river bank and Hunting Park Semidang Bukit Kabu of protected areas were damage . But the change was also influenced by industrial and domestic waste and river water quality as well as encroachers in hunting park. The extent of land use and land cover (LULC) of paddy field in Subang Regency has decrease because of conversion into non-paddy field. The objective of this research were to review the spatial pattern of LULC change and analyze the cause and to identify the anticipation strategy of paddy field conversion. The analysis uses the Landsat data of 1999, 2004, 2009, and 2014 which were interpreted by supervise technique. The interpretation result was compared to the existing LULC and was examined with KHAT statistic. This research was focused on the spatial pattern of LULC change, integrated with the Interpretative Structural Modeling (ISM) for reviewing the cause and the anticipation strategy of the conversion. The results revealed that the paddy field was converted into plantation, built area, and dryland agriculture. The ISM result revealed that the conversion causes were: (1) increasing the farmer economic needs, (2) increasing the built land area, (3) increasing the selling price of land and (4) decreasing the farming motivation. To anticipate the conversion, several priorites are needed, namely (1) rehabilitation of the irrigation infrastructures and regulation of the spatial planning, (2) tighten the conversion permit and maximization of the abandoned land, and (3) giving the incentive and disincentive for the farmers, land consolidation, and establishment of corporate farmin

As a new nature preservation area in West Java, the Gunung Ciremai National Park still need much supports to reach its optimum function; including ecotourism activities. Therefore, an ecotourism resource evaluation had been done in order to identify its ecotourism potentials. Amongst so many ecotourism objects in this area, the Elang Jawa (Spizateus bartelsi), Orchidae and the Situ Sangiang (Lake Sangiang) had the highest value for ecotourism attractions due to the criteria and indicators that were applied in the assessment. Further, in term of management perspectives, the research found that the circulation facilities in the area had become the most crucial problem for visitors to access and enjoy many ecotourism resources in the national park. Keywords: national park, ecotourism, ecotourism resources evaluationThis study aimed to reveal the potential of big mammals as komodo’s preys in Rinca Island, Komodo National Park. Population density, sex ratio, age structure and distribution of the komodo’s preys were collected using line transect method, and the vegetation were analyzed using line square method. A total of five species of big mammals were recorded as preys of komodo on the island, and among them were Timor deer and water buffalo which were the most important food sources for komodo. Long tailed macaque, wild horse, and wild boar were the alternative food sources for komodo. Komodo ate whenever there was the opportunity, and it usually attack animals in the savanna or water sources, since these areas were important for big mammals. Keywords: komodo, preys, mammals, population, savanna
