Milk quality is a crescent concern in Brazil and the Goias State does not have any current studies on this subject, although it is among the major producers in the country. The aim of this survey was to verify the relationship between somatic cell count (SCC) and milk composition (fat, protein, lactose and total solids content) and the influence of year period in SCC in Goias State, Brazil. Data were obtained from October 2002, to September 2003 in the Laboratory of Milk Quality of the Center of Food Research in the Veterinary School of the Federal University of Goias. SCC was analyzed through flow citometry and milk composition by infrared differential absorption. The year period was divided in two seasons: a rainy season, from November to April, and a dry season, from May to October. Protein, lactose and total solids content decreased as SCC elevated. Environmental temperature showed positive and significant correlation to score of somatic cells, and the highest averages of SCC occurred in the dry season.

Research on the causes of change in production and milk composition in the primary sector of production, transport and storage are important aspects and serve as a tool for improving the quality of raw materials and dairy products, since the consumer market is more demanding and growing demand. The objective of this paper was to evaluate the quality of milk depending on the type of milking and conditions of transport and storage. Between December 2010 and May 2011, samples were collected fresh milk directly from dairy herds and stored in refrigerated raw milk cooling tanks, insulated tanks and industrial silos. The electronic analysis (SCC, TBC and centesimal composition) were performed at the Laboratory of Milk Quality. It was used for statistical analyzes the statistical package ASSISTAT. The hand milking resulted in raw milk and raw milk refrigerated for best quality, which demonstrated the need to implement measures aimed at improving the hygienic quality of milk milked mechanically. The milk stored in silos industrial TBC showed higher compared to the milk stored in isothermal tank, however, both showed high microbial counts, which suggests the use of storage conditions conducive to microbial proliferation, inappropriate hygiene procedures and equipment of temperature and time above the storage required by Brazilian law. Produce raw material quality, according to current standards, resulting in higher yield and quality of dairy products, a situation that benefits industry and consumers.

Abstract: Dairy production plays a fundamental role in the Brazilian economy and high-quality forage is necessary for ruminants to produce satisfactory milk levels. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the production and quality of Jiggs bermudagrass and its effects on the production and quality parameters of milk from Holstein cows under an intermittent grazing system throughout the year. The experiment was conducted in a randomized design with the four seasons as treatments, replicated five times. The season had a significant effect on the production and nutritional parameters of Jiggs bermudagrass with the highest total dry matter production observed during summer, followed by spring and fall. The neutral detergent fiber and acid detergent fiber contents were significantly higher in winter. The in vitro dry matter digestibility was significantly higher in summer, spring, and fall. Jiggs bermudagrass is a promising forage for the enhancement of milk production under intermittent stocking. However, its effects vary seasonally which exerts a greater influence during the winter, even with irrigation, because it directly affects the milk production and quality. The correlation results demonstrated the importance of better quality forage for increasing milk production without compromising the levels of milk solids.

The objective of the present study was to evaluate the relationship between somatic cell counts (SCC) and the fat, protein, lactose and total solids from raw milk from 160 dairy cows. They were tabulated data from SCC and chemical composition for the period of six months. The SCC determined by flow cytometry and the percentage composition by differential absorption of infrared waves. To evaluate the influence of SCC on the fat, protein, lactose and total solids, it was calculated the correlation coefficient. The concentration of protein, lactose, and total solids inversely correlated with the SCC.
