Stabilized soluble enzymes

Rolf Dipl Chem Dr Schmid

After an introduction by a chapter on enzyme denaturation by physical chemical, and biological agents, methods for the stabilization of water-soluble enzymes are discussed in this review. this includes screening for intrinsically stabilized enzymes, addition of stabilizing agents such as substrates, solvents, salts or polymers, and chemical modification (e.g. acylation, reticulation, glycosidation or binding to polymers).

Microbial conversion of sterols

Frank F. Hill; Joachim Schindler; Rolf Dipl Chem Dr Schmid; R. Wagner; W. Voelter

By preselection of microorganisms which preferentially attack the side chain of cholesterol we have been able to isolate a mutant of Corynebacterium spec. Chol 73 which forms 20-carboxy-pregna-1,4-dien-3-one (BNC) from cholesterol in nearly quantitative yields. The structure of this compound has been established by means of13C NMR-,1H NMR and CD spectroscopy.

Biotechnology of Lipids in Industry

Rolf Dipl Chem Dr Schmid

In Industrialized countries, renewable resources are increasingly used as starting materials for chemistry. Thus already in 1980, 9% of the chemical feedstock in W. Germany was based on agricultural resources (1) (fig. 1).
