Global climate change will affect all domains of person-environment relations. Tackling climate change will require social change that can be motivated by people’s imaginings of the future of their society where such social change has occurred. We use the “collective futures” framework to examine whether beliefs about the future of society are related to present-day intentions to take climate change action. Participants from two Brazilian samples imagined their society in 2050 where climate change was mitigated and then rated how this future society would differ from Brazilian society today in terms of societal-level dysfunction and development and personal-level traits and values. To the extent that participants believed preventing climate change would result in societal development and more competence traits, they were more willing to engage in environmental citizenship activities. Individual differences in future time perspective also impacted environmental citizenship intention. Societal development and consideration of future consequences seem to be distinct routes by which future thinking influence climate change action.

This study aimed to adapt the 10-item Remembered Relationship with Parents (RRP10) scale to the Brazilian context knowing the evidences of its psychometric parameters. Participants were 298 undergraduate students of a private institution from Joao Pessoa (PB - Brazil), mostly females (55.6%) with a mean age of 19 years. They answered four measures, including the RRP10 and demographic questions. Results confirmed the conceptualized bi-factorial structure whose alienation and control factors showed evidences of reliability (composite reliability and internal consistency) and convergent/discriminant validity. In conclusion, according to evidences found in the construct validity, this measure may be properly used in future studies.

Helping behavior and altruism are actions for the wellbeing of others, which vary in degree of delivery and are fundamental to interpersonal relationships. Therefore, knowing what motivates such behaviors might contribute to the understanding of human nature and to develop interventions that promote pro-social behaviors. This study aimed to know to which extent human values correlate with these constructs in groups of donors and non-donors of blood. Participants were 142 people from the general population (age: M=27, SD=19.93; 60.6% female), equally composing both groups (donors and non-donors). Through an ANOVA, the extent to which the scores of these groups differ from each other was evaluated. It was observed that donors are more altruistic and present a greater amount of helping behavior, besides presenting significant correlations to values that characterize a universal orientation. These findings are discussed based on the functional theory of human values.

This research aimed to adapt the Positivity Scale (PS) to the Brazilian context, gathering evidence of validity and reliability. Two studies were performed. Study 1 was composed of 200 people from Paraiba, with a mean age of 23.4 years old (SD = 4.53), who answered the PS and demographic questions. Results pointed to a one-factor solution in this scale, which presented satisfactory reliability (α = .85). Study 2 gathered 290 undergraduate students with a mean age of 23.9 years old (SD = 7.60), who answered the PS, the Satisfaction with Life Scale, the Subjective Vitality Scale and demographic questions. Confirmatory factor analyses (ML and ADF estimators) corroborated the one-factor structure, which presented an acceptable reliability (CR = .65). Furthermore, its convergent validity was confirmed based on the average variance extracted (AVE = .60) and on its correlations with satisfaction with life and vitality (p < .001). In conclusion, this measure has been shown to be psychometrically adequate for use in Brazil.
