FABRICACION RAPIDA DE PROTOTIPOS PARA AUTOMOCION MEDIANTE DEFORMACION INCREMENTAL DE CHAPA

Francisco Javier Aguilar Contreras; Ruben Dorado Vicente; Rafael Lopez Garcia; Pablo Eduardo Romero Carrillo

First papers relative to use of polymers in incremental forming of sheet are dated in 2008. Nowadays, only a reduced number of works has been published, and most of them are oriented to the experimental validation of the process. Almost no work is focused on the use of the technique in a real industrial application. In the present paper, it is presented the implementation of one of the incremental forming techniques for rapid prototyping of a plastic headlight reflector for automotive industry.

Pocketing is one of the milling operations most used in the aeronautical and automotive sector. They are employed in the roughing during the manufacture of complex geometries, for dies cavities and moulds, as well as for the machining of pockets of simple geometry. In literature, there are many works focused on the generation of new strategies that allow machining complex geometries by reducing the cutting forces generated or obtaining a best surface quality. However, there are hardly any work focused on the study of the milling of pockets with simple, but with great industrial interest geometries. In this case, by its presence in many components of products manufactured in mass causes, the most important parameter to control is the machining time. In the present work, we studied what strategy is the most efficient in the pocketing of an aluminum car wheel. The strategies employed have been: direction-parallel (one-way, zig-zag), parallel to the contour (contour-parallel, cleaning the corners, constant) and the spirals (real spiral, morph spiral). It has been used a simple design of a wheel, formed by four simple geometries: large circular, small circular, triangular and rectangular. The results show that the family of parallel strategies to the contour are the fastest, even in the machining of circular pockets, where apparently the spiral strategies could have some advantage. In three of the geometries studied (large circular, small circular and triangular) the winning strategy has been the contour-parallel. However, the global faster strategy is the constant. Besides, in non-passant pockets (small circular ones, in this case), it is interesting to choose this strategy since it guarantees the removal of excess material in the corners and changes of direction of the tool.

Pablo Eduardo Romero Carrillo; Ruben Dorado Vicente; Eloisa Torres Jimenez; Rafael Lopez Garcia

Although Cordoba (Spain) is not an industrial city, up to 7 foundries have been working on it during last 150 years. Most of them was dedicated to the construction of metal fences and gates as well as to the manufacture of agricultural tools. Nevertheless, some of these foundries developed enough technology to equip whole industries dedicated to extracting olive oil or milling cereals. The foundries, located at extramural, were disappearing progressively one by one due to different socioeconomic reasons. Because of their excellent location, the spaces occupied by the foundries were replaced by residential buildings in successive enlargements of the city. Today nothing remains of these foundries, with exception of intangible heritage. Authors have recollected and organized this intangible heritage with the intention for avoiding their oblivion. But the work goes beyond: the authors also make a proposal for the diffusion of this heritage by means the creation of a pedestrian urban route along the different points where the foundries were located in the past. In every point of this route, a sticker with a QR code has been placed. Access to linked content can be done by capture of such QR code using a mobile device, as a tablet or a smartphone. The route has been designed for high schools students who are studying technology subjects. Also it can be interesting for students of vocational training in manufacturing. Some groups of students have already completed the route and, although some limitations were detected, the first feedbacks are good.

In the last years, the olive industry had a substantial technological development as a result of employing mechanical devices during harvest of the olive fruits from olive plantations. This process is very important for the future of the olive oil industry since it increases the profitability of this business making it easier the land work. In this paper, the design process and stress analysis of an orbital clamp vibrator is presented. Results make it possible to identify the critical elements and therefore to study their durability. By employing inverse engineering techniques it is possible optimize the original design.
