Identifying and analysing key decision variables that an organisation can opt for in order to initiate resource recovery from return activities and improve overall performance is a challenge. Therefore, to assist organisations which are involved in or about to initiate an effective recovery process, this paper provides guidelines to establish flexible decision strategies using the interpretive structural modelling (ISM) approach. This study has identified interrelationships between green variables such as supplier commitment, cost, regulations, etc. and has categorised relevant enablers. Further, variables such as capacity utilisation, customer satisfaction, energy consumption reduction, etc. are recognised as outcomes or results. After statistically verifying these variables, it has been inferred that driving enablers aid in promoting performance variables, while the result variables represent outcomes achieved via the driving variables. Further, using MICMAC analysis, a graphical categorisation of the variables is done on the basis of the impact on performance. Later prioritisation of variables having high driving power and low dependence is conducted. Inputs in the proposed model are taken through a case study conducted in the paper industry. The proposed model can be quite helpful and can act as a generic tool to achieve the desired performance improvement of green product recovery systems.

Due to increasing awareness among consumers and government legislations for preserving environment manufacturing firm’s needs to identifies and analyse the various variables involved in their supply chains. While, the identification of key variables for organisations those either implemented or thinking to initiate green activities in supply chains is a challenge. This paper provides an interpretive structural modelling (ISM)-based approach to implement and initiate green activities in supply chains. Variables such as supplier and stakeholder commitment, cost benefits, environmental issue, and customer redundancy, etc., have been identified and categorised under enablers; green and sustainable products, processing time and green productivity and efficiency, etc., under results. The research result interprets the variables possessing higher driving power requires high attention. Finally, proposed a model to present the ISM-based hierarchy in order of preference of variables in GSC. The variables in propose...

ABSTRACT The present work aims to evaluate the success factors (SFs) associated with the implementation of green supply chain management (GSCM) from the Indian manufacturing industry perspective. Initially, 24 SFs relevant to GSCM adoption and implementation were identified from the literature and inputs received from relevant experts. Subsequently, a structural model was proposed by means of combining the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and the Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) approach to evaluate these SFs at the tactical, operational and strategic levels in GSCM adoption. The AHP method helps in determining the relative importance/priorities of the SFs to GSCM adoption. In addition, the DEMATEL method captures the interactive relationships among the SFs, and analyses them on the basis of causal effect mapping. The model proposed can help industrial managers/practitioners to formulate short-term as well as long-term flexible decision strategies in efficiently managing a green supply chain.

Consideration is being given to the interaction of flexibility and green perspective of supply chains. Flexibility has already been considered to be an important differentiator in the current market place. Several researches have already emphasized the need for flexibility in supply chains and demonstrated its effectiveness. Substantial research efforts are still required to incorporate the flexibility with a motivation to improving performance of green supply chains (GSCs). By understanding how organizational initiatives and government policies we can decision flexibility into design and management of GSCs. In doing so, we will initially focus on environmental management perspective. Here, decision perspective from environmental factors is moved to the technological decisions related to postdisposal disposition of products. In the present scenario, this is a critical topic that captures increasing concerns of organizations over sustainability, which is driven by government legislation and environmental pressures. The implication of this research emphasizes on the potential to affect future government policy and current production system, and to identify new business models. In furthering this analysis, we investigate and provide a background to better understand the current trends in this multidisciplinary field that intersect with GSC.

In recent years, reverse logistics (RL) practices have been perceived a great recognition among researchers/practitioners. In this paper, we intend to identify and prioritise the critical factors (CFs) in implementing the RL practices, from the industrial viewpoint. There are 13 CFs crucial in accomplishing the RL practices were recognised on the basis of critical review of literature and experts opinion. These finalised 13 CFs were then analysed to determine their priority by means of analytical hierarchy process (AHP) technique. The AHP technique assists in determining the relative importance of the identified RL implementation critical factors. The findings of the work may help managers to address the related issues in RL implementation. Inputs needed to carry out this research work are taken from an Indian automotive components manufacturing company. The results of the study may help researchers/practitioners to prioritise their efforts to implement RL practices in effective manner. In the end, sensitivity analysis is carried out to examine the proposed RL implementation CFs stability.
