The increase of vehicle numbers in recent decades resulted in road traffic congestion problems. Such congestions are a characteristic of densely populated urban areas and occur daily during morning and afternoon rush hours. Urban areas have been suffering from the lack of space needed to build new road infrastructure. The traffic congestion problem can be solved by applying new traffic control approaches from the domain of intelligent transportation systems (ITS). One of the applied methods from ITS is known as ramp metering and is used to increase the throughput of urban highways with many on- and off-ramps. Nowadays ramp metering is used in cooperation with additional control approaches like variable speed limit control (VSLC). Prior to implementation, such cooperative traffic control systems have to be tested in simulations using real world traffic data. One of the used simulators is CTMSIM which enables macroscopic simulation of highway traffic and local ramp metering approaches. In this paper the CTMSIM simulator is augmented to enable simulation of cooperative ramp metering algorithms, stand-alone VSLC, and cooperation between ramp metering and VSLC. Augmented simulator is tested using some limited available traffic data with the Zagreb bypass urban highway as a case study.

This paper presents a cooperative intelligent transport systems, which represents a platform for future semantic services. We expect they will bring significant social and economic benefits, due to the greater efficiency of the transport system and increase security. Ontologies represent dictionaries of relevant concepts from traffic domains organized in a hierarchical structure of classes and taxonomy. This paper analyzes and provides guidelines for the development of semantic applications on the platform of cooperative intelligent transport systems.

The paper describes the importance and possibility of developing different services in the field of intelligent transport systems (ITS), in order to improve service quality of e-mobility, with special emphasises on endusers of electric vehicles. Paper emphasises significance of this approach in comparison with the future development of the various infrastructure involved in e-mobility. An overview of the model and the appropriate architecture for charging electric vehicles and their upgraded services to end users — drivers, is also provided.

Emission charging is a new phenomenon in transportation research. Whilst fuel taxation and road tolling are common ways of income raising in many countries, these initiatives are primarily aimed at road infrastructure financing. Worldwide, there has been growing interest in pricing structures designed to manage the growing levels of traffic congestion and, in recent times, an increasing focus on generating reductions in carbon emissions from vehicle ownership and usage. In this research model for vehicle emission charging using cooperative intelligent transport systems (ITS) has been made. With the use of proposed model, traffic management would be more accurate and efficient using the data provided by the Traffic Cooperative Center for Emission Charging. At the end, significant reduction of environmental pollution produced from road traffic would be achieved.

Urban mobility of the population is usually estimated using procedures focused on specific domains (transport, logistics, environment, society, etc.), Using the limited sets of domain related data and indicators related to targeted subsets of the total urban population (users of public transport, cyclists, drivers, etc.). The paper proposes a new approach for estimating the urban mobility of population based on data on telecommunication activities (voice calls, text messaging, Internet access) of users in public telecommunications networks. The paper describes the procedure for determination of indicators of urban mobility (number of trips, travel time, distance), and their values is obtained by analyzing a subset of data from mobile phone operators Call Data Records database. The presented method provides an estimate of the movement of users in order to estimate urban mobility by forming an origin destination matrix, travel time matrix and distance matrices between the respective zones. The new model for integrating urban mobility indicators into urban mobility index is proposed, by utilizing an expert system based on fuzzy-logic ANFIS method.
