Monoterpenoid furanocoumarin lactones from clausena anisata

Vijai Lakshmi; Dhan Prakash; Kanwal Raj; Randhir S. Kapil; Satya P. Popli

Abstract A reinvestigation of Clausena anisata has yielded imperatorin, xanthotoxol, lansamide-I and three new furanocoumarin lactone derivatives: indicolactone, anisolactone and 2′,3′-epoxyanisolactone. The structures of these compounds have been elucidated by a combination of spectroscopic and chemical methods.

New alkaloids from Tabernaemontana divaricata

Kamesh Rastogi; Randhir S. Kapil; Satya P. Popli

Abstract A re-investigation of the root bark of Tabernaemontana divaricata resulted in the isolation of 18 compounds, viz. α-amyrin acetate, lupeol acetate, α-amyrin, lupeol, cycloartenol, β-sitosterol, campesterol, benzoic acid, aurantiamide acetate, coronaridine, coronaridine hydroxyindolenine ( 1 ), ibogamine, 5-hydroxy-6-oxocoronaridine ( 6 ), 5-oxocoronaridine ( 9 ), 6-oxocoronaridine ( 10 ), (±)-19-hydroxycoronaridine ( 11 ), 3-oxocoronaridine ( 12 ) and voacamine. The alkaloids 6 , 9 , 10 and 11 are new compounds, whereas cycloartenol, campesterol, ibogamine, benzoic acid, aurantiamide acetate and coronaridine hydroxyindolenine are reported from this plant for the first time.

Toddasin, a new dimeric coumarin from Toddalia asiatica.

Padam N. Sharma; Aboo Shoeb; Randhir S. Kapil; Satya P. Popli

Abstract A new dimeric coumarin, named toddasin and possessing a cyclohexene ring with a vinylic side-chain interposed between the two coumarin moieties has been isolated from the roots of Toddalia asiatica. It has been characterized as (E)-8,8′-[1″,4″-dimethyl-3″ -cyclohexen-1″,2″-ylene vinylene]-bis-[5,7-dimethoxycoumarin] (1). The proposed structure is supported by the mass fragmentation of its dihydro derivative (2).

A furanoeremophilane from Vitex negundo

Surendra P. Vishnoi; Aboo Shoeb; Randhir S. Kapil; Satya P. Popli

Abstract Acetyl oleanolic acid, sitosterol and a new furanoeremophilane characterized as 3-formyl-4,5-dimethyl-8-oxo-5 H -6,7-dihydronaphtho(2,3- b )furan have been isolated from the roots of Vitex negundo .

Phytochemistry | 1982

8-hydroxydihydrochelerythrine and arnottianamide from roots of Toddalia asiatica☆

Padam N. Sharma; Aboo Shoeb; Randhir S. Kapil; Satya P. Popli

Abstract In addition to hexacosanoic acid, β-sitosterol and arnottianamide, 8-hydroxydihydrochelerythrine, a new benzophenanthridine alkaloid has been isolate

Phytochemistry | 1981

Toddanol and toddanone, two coumarins from Toddalia asiatica

Padam N. Sharma; Aboo Shoeb; Randhir S. Kapil; Satya P. Popli

Abstract Two new constituents isolated from the roots of Toddalia asiatica and designated as toddanol and toddanone have been characterized as 5,7-dimethoxy-6-(2-hydroxy-3-methylbut-3-enyl)coumarin ( 1 ) and 5,7-dimethoxy-6-(3-methyl-2-oxobutanyl)coumarin ( 3 ), respectively, by spectral analysis and interconversion experiments.

Two diuretic triterpenoids from Antidesma menasu

Shakir H. Rizvi; Aboo Shoeb; Randhir S. Kapil; Satya P. Popli

Abstract Two new pentacyclic triterpenoids characterized as 16α-hydroxy-3-ketoisomultiflorene and 3β-hydroxy-16-ketoisomultiflorene have been isolated from the aerial parts of Antidesma menasu. Both of these compounds displayed diuretic activity in experimental animals.

Synthesis of (±)-isomedicarpin, (±)-homopterocarpin and tuberostan: a novel entry of ‘hydrogenative cyclisation’ into pterocarpans

Awari V. Krishna Prasad; Randhir S. Kapil; Satya P. Popli

An efficient three-step synthesis of the coumestan, tuberostan (1), from the benzyloxyisoflavone (2) is described. The synthesis involves a single-step ‘hydrogenative cyclisation’ of the isoflavone (2) to the pterocarpan, (±)-isomedicarpin (5)
