Bacteriostatic heterocycles from Euodia lunu-ankenda☆

Mangala D. Manandhar; Falak A. Hussaini; Randhir S. Kapil; Aboo Shoeb

Abstract A new constituent characterized as 8-acetyl-3,4-dihydroxy-5,7-dimethoxy-2,2-dimethylchroman has been isolated together with alloevodionol-7-methyl ether, 4-methoxy-1-methyl-2(1H)quinolinone, evolitrine, isoevodionol and its methyl ether from the aerial parts of Euodia lunu-ankenda. Its structure was confirmed by its transformation to alloevodionol-7-methyl ether. 4-Methoxy-1-methyl-2(1H)quinolinone and its isomer were synthesized by a modified procedure.

Toddasin, a new dimeric coumarin from Toddalia asiatica.

Padam N. Sharma; Aboo Shoeb; Randhir S. Kapil; Satya P. Popli

Abstract A new dimeric coumarin, named toddasin and possessing a cyclohexene ring with a vinylic side-chain interposed between the two coumarin moieties has been isolated from the roots of Toddalia asiatica. It has been characterized as (E)-8,8′-[1″,4″-dimethyl-3″ -cyclohexen-1″,2″-ylene vinylene]-bis-[5,7-dimethoxycoumarin] (1). The proposed structure is supported by the mass fragmentation of its dihydro derivative (2).

A lignan from Lonicera hypoleuca

Khalid A. Khan; Aboo Shoeb

Abstract A new lignan characterised as (-)-4-hydroxy-2,6-di-(4′-hydroxy-3′-methoxy)phenyl-3,7-dioxabicyclo-(3.3.0)octane along with n -10-nonacosanol, scopoletin, syringic acid, β-sitosterol and its glucoside, has been isolated from the aerial parts of Lonicera hypoleuca . The stereochemistry of the lignan has been established by its spectroscopic analysis and those of its derivatives, and by its conversion to (+)-pinoresinol. β-Sitosterol-β- D -glucoside displayed good spasmolytic activity.

Phytochemistry | 1983

A furanoeremophilane from Vitex negundo

Surendra P. Vishnoi; Aboo Shoeb; Randhir S. Kapil; Satya P. Popli

Abstract Acetyl oleanolic acid, sitosterol and a new furanoeremophilane characterized as 3-formyl-4,5-dimethyl-8-oxo-5 H -6,7-dihydronaphtho(2,3- b )furan have been isolated from the roots of Vitex negundo .

Phytochemistry | 1982

8-hydroxydihydrochelerythrine and arnottianamide from roots of Toddalia asiatica☆

Padam N. Sharma; Aboo Shoeb; Randhir S. Kapil; Satya P. Popli

Abstract In addition to hexacosanoic acid, β-sitosterol and arnottianamide, 8-hydroxydihydrochelerythrine, a new benzophenanthridine alkaloid has been isolate

Phytochemistry | 1981

Toddanol and toddanone, two coumarins from Toddalia asiatica

Padam N. Sharma; Aboo Shoeb; Randhir S. Kapil; Satya P. Popli

Abstract Two new constituents isolated from the roots of Toddalia asiatica and designated as toddanol and toddanone have been characterized as 5,7-dimethoxy-6-(2-hydroxy-3-methylbut-3-enyl)coumarin ( 1 ) and 5,7-dimethoxy-6-(3-methyl-2-oxobutanyl)coumarin ( 3 ), respectively, by spectral analysis and interconversion experiments.

Phytochemistry | 1980

Two diuretic triterpenoids from Antidesma menasu

Shakir H. Rizvi; Aboo Shoeb; Randhir S. Kapil; Satya P. Popli

Abstract Two new pentacyclic triterpenoids characterized as 16α-hydroxy-3-ketoisomultiflorene and 3β-hydroxy-16-ketoisomultiflorene have been isolated from the aerial parts of Antidesma menasu. Both of these compounds displayed diuretic activity in experimental animals.

Phytochemistry | 1978

New alkaloids from Aegle marmelos

Mangala D. Manandhar; Aboo Shoeb; Randhir S. Kapil; Satya P. Popli

Abstract Four new alkaloids, O -(3,3-dimethylallyl)-halfordinol, N -2-ethoxy-2-(4-methoxyphenyl)ethylcinnamamide, N -2-methoxy-2-[4-(3′,3′-dimethyl
