A new method of collection of nasal secretion, by dilution with condensed mositure of the exhaled air, is described. This method may be defined as a sefl-administered nasal lavage. The method permits quantitative determination of pH, relative viscosity, and electrolyte and protein composition. Concentrations of sodium, potassium, calcium, total protein, IgA, IgG, IgM, secretory compoenent and polysaccharide are reported for normal subjects. Significant correlations were noted between the relative viscosity and variables: dry weight, total protein and calcium.

Myonal® (a muscle relaxant) was used alone or in combination with other drugs in the treatment of 33 males (53.1±13.6 y. o.) and 26 females (54.8±12.5 y. o.) with tinnitus. The treatment was effective in 42.4% of the patients. A better effect was obtained in the following patients:1. Those in the 5th and 6th decades.2. When Myonal® was used in combination with other drugs.3. When treatment was continued for 8 weeks or longer.Side effects were observed in 4 patients (6.8%).

A Case of Rhinogenic Intracranial Complication

Seiichiro Yoshii; Keizo Fukukita; Hiroshi Fuke

Rhinogenic Intracranial infection is a rare complication. Intracranial complication arising from nasal infections, principally afflictions of the accessory sinuses, is a very grave complication. Since the advent of chemotherapy and various antibiotics, its incidence and morbidity has diminished appreciably.A case of rhinogenic spontaneous Intracranial complication is reported herein. The patient was a 16-year-old man with a swelling around the left eye-lid that had existed for two days. There had been headache and high fever. On examination, the spinal fluid was under pressure with a high cell count, consisting mostly of poly-morphonuclear cells. Four days after admission, he went into coma. Rhinogenic intracranial complication was suspected. A radical ethmoid, antrum and frontal sinus surgery was immediately carried out. Ten grams of SB-PC and 200mg of DKB were administered daily, but 12 days after admission, the careful CT scanning revealed that he had a subdural abscess. Drainage of the subdural abscess was carried out. The patient made a complete recovery 7 weeks after admission.

Warthins tumor (papillary cystadenoma lymphomatosum) is a rare benign tumor of the salivary glands. This tumor consists of histologic components, one epithelial, the other lymphoid. This report concerns two cases of Warthins tumor. The first case was an 18 year old female who first noted a small lump near the left angle of the mandible. The lump was removed and was histologically demonstrated to be Warthins tumor. The second case concerned a 67 year old male who first noted a lump near the left angle of the mandible and a swelling in the nasopharyngeal region. The tumor was diagnosed as an epipharynx malignancy with left neck metastasis and radiation therapy of 1200 rads was given, when this tumor proved to be benign, the neck tumor and epipharynx tumor were removed and were histologically demonstrated to be Warthins tumor for the former and the oncocytoid tumor for the latter.Reports of papillary cystadenoma lymphomatosum in Japan were reviewed and histogenesis of this tumor was discussed.
