The Development of the Nature of Science View Scale (NOSvs) at University Level.

Abstract Background: Determining individuals’ views of the nature of science is quite important for researchers since it is both a component of scientific literacy and a fundamental aim of science education. Purpose: This study aims to develop a NOSvs for assessing prospective teachers’ views of the nature of science and to analyse their psychometric properties. Sample: A total of 565 prospective teachers participated in the study. Design and methods: The Kaiser–Meyer–Olkin (KMO) Index and Bartlett’s Sphericity Test were used in this study. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was performed to determine the construct validity of the scale. Cronbach’s Alpha (α) coefficient was calculated for the reliability of the study. Results: It was consequently found that the KMO was larger than .50. That Bartlett’s Sphericity Test was also statistically significant. The items with item-total correlations smaller than .30 were removed from the scale. Cronbach’s α values calculated for each sub-scale were above .70. In consequence of the first CFA performed, fit indices were found to be below the expected level. For this reason, three more items with the least item-total correlations were removed from the scale. Following the CFA, the final form of the scale included 36 items and five sub-scales.

Rehberli Sorgulama Ölçeğinin Geçerlik ve Güvenirlik Çalışması.

Bu calismanin amaci Cheung (2011) tarafindan gelistirilen Rehberli Sorgulama Olcegini Turkceye uyarlamak, gecerlik ve guvenirlik calismalarini yapmaktir. Calismaya iki devlet universitesinin egitim fakultesine devam etmekte olan 132 ogretmen adayi katilmistir. Olcek icin ceviri islemleri yapildiktan sonra gecerlik calismalari icin dogrulayici faktor analizi ve guvenirlik calismalari icin ise Cronbach Alfa ic tutarlilik ve McDonald‟in Omega katsayilari hesaplanmistir. Dogrulayici faktor analizi sonucunda 12 madde ve iliskili uc alt boyuttan olusan (rehberli sorgulamaya dayali laboratuvarlarin onemi, geleneksel dogrulama laboratuvarlarinin sinirliliklari, rehberli sorgulamaya dayali laboratuvarlarla ilgili uygulama sorunlari) modelin iyi uyum gosterdigi belirlenmistir (χ 2 /sd=1.27, RMSEA=.045, SRMR=.051, CFI=.98, GFI=.92, AGFI=.88, NFI=.93, NNFI=.97, IFI=.98). Olcekte yer alan maddelerin, faktor yuklerinin istatistiksel olarak anlamli ve.56 ile .85 arasinda degerler aldigi tespit edilmistir. Cronbach Alfa ic tutarlilik katsayisi rehberli sorgulamaya dayali laboratuvarlarin onemi boyutu icin .81, geleneksel dogrulama laboratuvarlarinin sinirliliklari boyutu icin .76 ve son olarak rehberli sorgulamaya dayali laboratuvarlarla ilgili uygulama sorunlari boyutu icin .83 olarak hesaplanmistir. Sonuc olarak Rehberli Sorgulama Olceginin Turkce formunun gecerli ve guvenilir bir olcek oldugu ifade edilebilir.

The Effect of Inquiry-Based Laboratory Applications on Students’ Motivation and Learning Strategies

Article History: Received 11.10.2015 Received in revised form 17.12.2015 Accepted 01.01.2016 Available online 21.03.2016 This study aims to investigate the effects of inquiry-based laboratory applications on students’ motivation and learning strategies. The research was conducted in the form of one group pretest – posttest design. 22 undergraduate students taking the course Chemistry Experiments in Secondary Education in the spring semester of 2014-2015 academic year were included in the research. Chemistry Motivation Questionnaire and Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire were employed in the research as the tool of data collection. Paired-samples t test was used for related samples in order to check whether or not students’ pre-experimental and post-experimental motivations and their learning strategies differed significantly. The findings obtained demonstrated that intrinsic motivation, self-efficacy, self-determination and career motivation – which were the sub-dimensions of motivationapart from grade motivation and organization, elaboration, critical thinking and metacognitive self-regulation – which were the sub-dimensions of learning strategiesdeveloped significantly as a result of laboratory applications based on inquiry.

Kimyasal Bağlarla İlgili Fenomenografik Bir Çalışma

This study aims to reveal how students perceive and identify the concept of chemical bonding, and to identify and explain the misconceptions of students on this subject through phenomenographic research method, as well. The present study included 17 2 nd grade students who enrolled to Inorganic Chemistry course in the Faculty of Education. Concept maps and lotus blossom technique were used as data collection tools in order to determine the perceptions and definitions of students about chemical bonding. Data analysis results determined the misconceptions of students about chemical bonding classified misconceptions under seven categories, which are, according to the results of the study, physical changes and bonding, ionic bond, formation of chemical bonding, the existence of chemical bonding, covalent bonds, metallic bonds and intermolecular bonding.
