Within the international supply chain and logistics system, ports are an important ring of the basic transport activities. Thus, any shortage in or lack of well-planned orders encountered in the port operation processes is most likely to affect the whole logistic system, which eventually will cause undesirable delays in deliveries. This study aims at developing a simulation modelling approach to continuous berth allocation in Port of Izmir Alsancak, which has continuous quayside with two main wharfs perpendicular to each other. The simulation models which serve to evaluate the proposed modelling approach have been developed in ARENA 10.0 Simulation Software. The results of the conducted computational experiments showed that the proposed modelling approach provides more accurate and realistic estimates of performance measures, such as average berth utilisation, average ship waiting time in a queue, and the average number of ships in queuing up to get container terminals.

Turkey is located between Asia and Europe and attracts attention with its economic development. Turkeys landbridge position in north-south and east-west transportation means that ports are of vital importance to the efficiency of logistics activities of the country. Although Turkey has a strategic position in terms of logistics and shipping, its approximately 160 ports do not enjoy the usual benefits of ports. The ports and piers can be classified in terms of whether they are operated by public sector, affiliated sector, regional municipalities or the private sector. This paper focuses on the Turkish port management and administration system and the possibilities for applying good governance in Turkish ports during the current process of privatization of public ports. It concludes that the privatization process has not been completed yet and there are many legal and practical issues to be resolved.

Ticaret hacminin artmasi ve tedarik zincirinin kuresellesmesi limanlarin uluslararasi ticaretteki onemini artirmistir. Bu gelismeler sebebiyle limanlar, musterilerinin ihtiyaclarini karsilayabilmek icin hinterlandlarinda bulunan urunlerin analizini yapmaya ihtiyac duymaktadirlar. Akdeniz’e acilan kapilar olarak nitelendirilen Iskenderun Korfezi, bircok urun grubuna hizmet verebilecek yeterli altyapiya sahiptir. Turkiye’de toplam yuk elleclemede Iskenderun Korfezi’nin payi %9,34’tur. Bu calismanin amaci, Iskenderun Korfezi’nde bulunan limanlara ait yukleme sikliklarini analiz etmek ve one cikan yuk gruplarini ve ihracat/ithalat bolgelerini belirlemektir. Ithalat ve ihracat yuklerinin toplam miktarlari ve yuk gruplari; gemilerin yukleme ve bosaltma tonajlari, ithalat ve ihracat yapilan bolgeler ve Iskenderun’daki ellecleme limanlari bazinda analiz edilmistir. On plana cikan yuk gruplarinin ve baslica ithalat/ihracat bolgelerinin belirlenmesi icin Rstudio yazilimi kullanilmis, toplam yuk miktarlari ton bazinda hesaplanmis ve yukleme sikliklari bulunmustur. Analiz icin Assan Limani, Yazici Limani, Isdemir Limani, MMK Metalurji Limani, Orhan Ekinci Iskelesi, Limak, Gubretas Limani, Sasa Terminali ve Petrol Ofisi Iskelesi belirlenmistir.

In today’s globalized world, one of the requirements of global supply chains is efficient transportation systems. Approximately 80% of world merchandise trade is carried by sea and handled by ports worldwide. For this reason, maritime transport has the strategic economic importance. Loading of oil and gas has the biggest share (30%) in commodities carried by sea and 2.9 billion tons oil and gas were loaded to ships in 2013. This study focuses on chemical cargo terminals which are a special terminal form where high and international levels of safety and quality elements are applied. Unlike conventional bulk cargo and container cargo operations, chemical cargo operations include own priorities, applications, and evaluation criteria. The aim of this study is to perform qualitative research to determine the factors affecting the operational efficiency of ship, berth and warehousing operations in chemical cargo terminals.
