RESUMO Objetivo: Analisar a producao cientifica relacionada as respostas fisiologicas e emocionais em estudantes de enfermagem, registrada nos periodicos nacionais e internacionais de enfermagem. Metodos: Foi realizada uma revisao integrativa da literatura cientifica, tendo como foco as bases de dados PUBMED, MEDLINE, CINAHL, LILACS e SciELO. Na amostra, foram incluidos trabalhos escritos na integra, em portugues, ingles ou espanhol, no periodo de julho de 2004 a julho de 2009, que continham, pelo menos, um descritor no titulo e tres no texto, diretamente relacionados a manifestacoes fisiologicas e psicologicas do estresse em estudantes de enfermagem. Resultados: Dos 126 artigos identificados apenas 13 referiram-se ao tema, deles, cinco abordaram manifestacoes psicologicas, quatro, manifestacoes fisiologicas e outros quatro ambas. Do total, quatro foram estudos longitudinais e nove transversais. Conclusao: Pelos resultados atingidos, observou-se que o tema ainda deve ser estudado e desenvolvido no processo de ensino e aprendizagem da enfermagem, pois verificou-se que o estresse e uma ocorrencia frequente e com consequencias importantes entre esses estudantes. OBJECTIVE To analyze the influence of stress factors and socio-demographic characteristics on the sleep quality of nursing students. METHOD An analytical cross-sectional and quantitative study, conducted with 151 nursing students in São Paulo between March and April of 2012. A form for socio-demographic characteristics, the Instrument to Evaluate Stress in Nursing Students and the Pittsburgh Sleep Index were applied. RESULTS High levels of stress was predominant for Time Management (27.8%) and Professional Training (30.5%) and low sleep quality (78.8%). The Professional Communication, Professional Training and Theoretical Activity are positively correlated to sleep quality. Work activity, academic year and time for daily studies contributed to a low quality of sleep. CONCLUSION Few stress factors from the academic environment and some socio-demographic characteristics contributed to the reduction of sleep quality in students.Objetivo: Analizar la influencia de los factores de estres y de las caracteristicas sociodemograficas en la calidad del sueno de estudiantes de enfermeria. Metodo: Estudio analitico, transversal y cuantitativo, realizado con 151 alumnos de pregrado en enfermeria de Sao Paulo entre marzo y abril del ano 2012. Los instrumentos utilizados fueron: un formulario para la caracterizacion sociodemografica, el instrumento de Evaluacion del Estres en Estudiantes de Enfermeria y el Indice de Calidad del Sueno de Pittsburgh. Resultados: Se verifico predominio de estres de nivel muy alto en la Gestion del Tiempo (27,8%) y en la Formacion Profesional (30,5%), y de baja calidad de Sueno (78,8%). La Comunicacion Profesional, la Formacion Profesional y la Actividad Teorica se correlacionaron positivamente con la calidad del sueno. La actividad laboral, el ano academico y el tiempo diario de estudio contribuyeron para la disminucion de la calidad del sueno. Conclusion: Algunos factores de estres del ambiente academico y algunas caracteristicas sociodemograficas contribuyen a la disminucion de la calidad del sueno del estudiante de enfermeria.

We intended to evaluate the impact of coping strategies on the intensity of stress on hemato-oncology nurses, using a transversal analytical study conducted with 18 nurses between March and April of 2010. We used a form for socio-demographic characterization, the Occupational Coping Scale to evaluate the coping strategies and the Nurses Stress Inventory to evaluate the stress. There was no significant correlation between coping strategies and stress intensity, however, in the dispersion analysis, the use of control and avoidance strategies increased stress intensity while the use of symptoms management decreased its intensity. Nurses with less time working in the health institution and those without a postgraduate degree presented higher stress intensity. We concluded that Symptoms Management strategy has a positive effect on the stress of hemato-oncological nurses, where the reduced perspective of healing and the chronic condition of the patients are inherent to the nursing work and make proactive and avoidance actions difficult.

OBJECTIVES To identify the gender differences in assessing quality of life of patients undergoing chemotherapy treatment for colorectal cancer. METHODS This is a cross-sectional investigation conducted with 144 patients (72 men and 72 women) undergoing chemotherapy treatment in a southeastern Brazilian hospital. Data were gathered trough a sociodemographic and clinical information form and the Health-related Quality of Life instrument from the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer. RESULTS Cognitive function leads to lower general quality of life, with higher effect in men when compared to women. Body image (p=0.023), abdominal pain (p=0.020) and dry mouth (p=0.001) produced lower quality of life in women. On other hand, men showed lower quality of life related to the following symptoms: fecal incontinency (p<0.001), sexual impotency (p=0.027) and sexual arousal (p<0.001). CONCLUSIONS The illness symptoms and chemotherapy treatment effects that negatively impact on quality of life differ between men and women. Thus, healthcare needs to be focused on these specific factors that affect the quality of life according to the patients gender.

Objetivo: comparar a percepcao de estresse entre pacientes com câncer colorretal em tratamento quimioterapico com aqueles no periodo pre-colonoscopico. Metodos: estudo descritivo, comparativo, desenvolvido com 144 pessoas em quimioterapia e com 100 pacientes em periodo pre-colonoscopico, utilizando-se formulario de dados biossociais e clinicos, o Instrumento de Avaliacao de Estresse e a Escala de Estresse Percebido. Resultados: dos pacientes em periodo pre-colonoscopico, houve predominância do sexo feminino (73%), na faixa etaria acima de 65 anos (50%). Daqueles em quimioterapia houve paridade quanto aos sexos e a maioria se encontrava na faixa etaria de 40 a 64 anos (68,1%). As pessoas no periodo pre-colonoscopico apresentaram maior estresse percebido quando comparado aqueles em quimioterapia (p<0,001). Conclusao: a fase de definicao diagnostica representa maior estresse aos pacientes em comparacao ao periodo terapeutico, mesmo diante das manifestacoes caracteristicas da quimioterapia.
