The efficacy of systemic therapy with adult patients: a meta-content analysis of 38 randomized controlled trials.

Systemic therapy is a widely used psychotherapy approach. Yet there exist few systematic reviews on its efficacy. A meta-content analysis was performed to analyze the efficacy of systemic therapy for the treatment of mental disorders in adulthood. All randomized (or matched) controlled trials (RCT) evaluating systemic/systems oriented therapy in various settings (family, couple, individual, group, multifamily group therapy) with adult index patients suffering from mental disorders were identified by database searches and cross-references in other reviews. Inclusion criteria were: index patient diagnosed with a DSM or ICD listed mental disorder, trial published in any language up to the end of 2008. The RCTs were content analyzed according to their research methodology, interventions applied, and results. Thirty-eight trials published in English, German, Spanish, and Chinese were identified, 34 of them showing systemic therapy to be efficacious for the treatment of mood disorders, eating disorders, substance use disorders, mental and social factors related to medical conditions and physical disorders, and schizophrenia. Systemic therapy may also be efficacious for anxiety disorders. Results were stable across follow-up periods of up to 5 years. There is a sound evidence-base for the efficacy of systemic therapy for adult index patients with mental disorders in at least five diagnostic groups.

In modern society, intimate relationships are generally seen as irrational and selfless; nevertheless, they are often described in terms of exchange in social sciences. According to theories of differentiation and exchange, this article is trying to assess the plausibility of exchange metaphors for the explanation of intimate relationships in the face of contradictions in the empirical research with exchange assumptions (I). For this reason, exchange concepts (II) are confronted with the modern semantic of love (III), with martial and long-term relationships (IV) and with the early phase of beginning relationships (V). Many inconsistencies between the principle of exchange and the modern conception of love are found, but also some possibilities to explain long-term relationships and even more the first contacts made to indicate a relationship in the light of exchange theory. Especially this last constellation is able to kindle love on the basis of uncertain reciprocity.

Netz-Werke. Funktionale Differenzierung, Selbstdarstellung und Beziehungspflege auf Social Networking Platforms

StudiVZ, Facebook, XING, MySpace: Social Networking Platforms (SNPs) besiedeln das Internet, und das mit zunehmendem Erfolg. Die Netzwerkportale verzeichnen weltweit einen bemerkenswerten Zuwachs in ihrer Nutzung und stehen mittlerweile auf Platz vier der meistgenutzten Websites uberhaupt. Allein im deutschsprachigen Raum haben sich uber 100 solcher Onlinenetzwerke etabliert; und mehr als die Halfte aller Internetnutzer sind dort registriert, mit steil anwachsender Tendenz gerade auch bei alteren Personen (Nielsen Reports 2009; FR vom 26.3.09). Mit ihrer hohen Resonanz haben sie innerhalb kurzester Zeit riesige Adressenverzeichnisse aufgebaut, in denen eine Fulle an personlichen Informationen und Selbstenthullungen freigegeben wird, auch gegenuber Unbekannten. Sie bieten den virtuellen Discountauftritt fur jedermann – und liefern uber Verlinkung ein Beobachtungsumfeld gleich mit. Doch so verschiedenartig ihre technischen Realisierungen die Sozialitat strukturieren und die pauschale Formel des Networkings von Plattform zu Plattform spezifizieren, so gleichformig scheint doch ihr Tenor: SNPs haben gerade noch gefehlt, um neue personliche Kontakte beruflicher wie privater Art ohne jede raum-zeitliche Grenze zu knupfen und vergangene Kontakte uber allerlei Werkzeuge virtuell zu organisieren.

Wie wirksam ist Systemische Psychotherapie/Familientherapie?

Systemische Therapie/Familientherapie (ST/FT) ist in den meisten Industrielandern ein wissenschaftlich anerkanntes Psychotherapieverfahren, bisher jedoch in Deutschland wissenschaftlich nicht anerkannt. Es wird ein Uberblick uber bis Ende 2005 publizierte kontrollierte, randomisierte (oder parallelisierte) Outcome-Studien zur Wirksamkeit von ST/FT bei klinischen Storungen des Erwachsenen- sowie des Kindes- und Jugendalters gegeben. 27 von 33 RCT-Studien zur Erwachsenenpsychotherapie und 44 von 50 Studien zur Kinder- und Jugendlichenpsychotherapie belegen die hohe Wirksamkeit von ST/FT. Sehr gut belegt ist die Wirksamkeit von ST/FT bei Essstorungen, Storungen des Sozialverhaltens und jugendlicher Delinquenz, Substanzstorungen und psychischen Faktoren bei somatischen Krankheiten. Weitere erfolgreiche Studien liegen vor bezuglich Depressionen, Suizidalitat und schweren psychiatrischen Krisen, ADHD sowie Misshandlung/Vernachlassigung von Kindern.
