Improper management of solid wastes from healthcare services is a source of contamination and risk to the environment and to the public health. Emphasizing this matter in the process of education requires to take into account the individuals that work in these spaces, for constructing an ethic conscience, aiming at quality of life and sustainability. In order to know the approach on the management of solid wastes from health-care services in the programs of Nursery/Obstetrics, Dentistry, Medicine e Veterinary Medicine, interviews were conducted with twenty one persons, coordinators, teachers and students of an university in Southern Brazil, as well as an analysis of documents. After analyzing the contents, it is possible to state that the future professionals have practices related to segregation, packing and picking in some environments, although they have not a comprehension of the totality of this management.Improper management of solid wastes from healthcare services is a source of contamination and risk to the environment and to the public health. This paper investigates the implementation and enforcement of environmental licensing and environmental impact assessment (EIA) regulations and decisions in the context of the Rio 2007 Pan American Games in Brazil. The methodology includes detailed case study analysis involving document analysis and interviews with key stakeholders. The results demonstrate that implementation and enforcement of EIA and environmental licensing still have a long way to go in terms of being fully effective in Brazil. Despite this, in the scope of the case study, the results showed that implementation and enforcement of environmental licensing and EIA regulations and decisions seem to be undertaken according to relevant regulations in the context of the Pan American Village. Finally, recommendations for major sports events and for the Brazilian context to strengthen its regulatory framework for environmental licensing and EIA are developed.

ABSTRACT This article shows solid wastes of health services have been approached in the process of formation of undergratuation courses of the field of health. Data were collected from coordinators, teachers and students of the courses of Dentistry, Veterinary Medicine, Nursery-Obstetrics and Medicine of a Public Institution of higher education in the southern region of Brazil. A reform of teaching is taken as necessary, in order to include in the pedagogic processes new understandings: of integrality, articulation, dialogue, problematizacao, so that to prepare future professionals for facing the problem of solid wastes of health services, with responsibility and commitment. Key words: Formative process; university learning; solid wastes of health services; environmental education; social commitment. INTRODUCTION We have faced serious challenges these days, such as the complexity and the diversity of the environmental issues. Considering the sources of environmental degradation, the solid residues generated in health services show an important peculiarity: when they are inadequately managed, they pose potential risk to the environment.

Studies on the generation of solid waste and food waste in restaurants are important and necessary for the culinary management and the definition of plans for solid waste management. This research evaluated the mass balance of a hotel restaurant in the touristic region Uva e Vinho in Rio Grande do Sul Data were collected during periods of high and low season, characterized by the occurrence of events in the region (nine weeks interspersed). All raw and processed food (used in the preparation of meals and offered to guests) and waste generated were quantified. It was found that the food waste generally occurs because the supply is larger than the consumption. We conclude on the importance of the development of studies directed to the generation and disposal of solid waste in restaurants in order to optimize the procedures in the gastronomic planning, reduce food waste and adopt techniques of reuse and treatment of this residues.

Bus manufacturing process comprises the following steps: chassis receiving, chassis preparing, body assembly, painting and finishing. Liquid and solid wastes are generated during the process. This study aims to identify mechanisms to minimize the generation of solid waste in the step of chassis preparation. The study followed the methodology of cleaner production by CNTL. Components withdrawal is responsible for the greatest variety and quantity of waste generated during chassis preparing step. Some components are used by the company, but it still represents a small amount of the total generated wastes. Among the components with the possibility of reuse are: washers, nuts, bolts, diesel oil and seatbelts. Panels and metal chairs wastes could be avoided. The total savings related to the techniques of reuse and minimization of the selected components may reach R
