Research on RFID System Recognition Test under the Forestry Environment for Tree Management

Tae-Woong Jung; Jee-Hee Koo; Kyoung-Min Kim; Mu-Wook Pyeon

In this paper, we attached RFID tag on trees and compared the maximum distance that is read under rainy environment or for each recognition mode. Then, we analyzed the system’s maximum reading distance of 15 tags in total under various forestry environments such as clear day, rainy day, different reading method and different tag sizes. As an unprecedented research in the country to apply RFID to forestry, first it can provide basic information to be utilized to come up with specifications and elements for considerations to make customized tag appropriate under the forestry environment in the future. Second, this study can also be used as a foundation to make a manual for field operations which utilizes RFID under forestry environment.

Although the livestock excretion is a significant resource in providing nutrients to the crops as it is recycled, it has been perceived as the cause of environmental pollutions for its inappropriate treatment and quality control issues. The study is aimed to develop an integrated management system for efficient management of livestock excretion using the Ubiquitous technology, and the user requirements are analyzed for development of such system. As the result of analysis on the requirements, it has been proved that such system is perceived to be necessary and the demand for several main functions can be seen as well.

Informative Construction Technology Innovation Based on Ubiquitous GIS

Tae-Woong Jung; Mu-Wook Pyeon; Jee-Hee Koo; Jong-Hwa Kim

The purpose of this research is to establish real-world infrastructures of a future high-tech city using construction technology (CT)-IT fusion. This paper is composed of three parts; updating accurate geo-spatial database using construction drawings, providing the information of the 3D geo-spatial database via Web service. Building databases for stationary and mobile objects inside of structures and developing technologies to provide an indoor positioning service system. Developing technique about gaining/providing locational and morphological information from/to construction-related objects such as structures, workers, equipments, and building material. This research will help in the future development of U-City and autonomic integration of GIS and construction.

A Study of Ubiquitous-based Stall Management System

Tae-Woong Jung; Ji-Yeon Ahn; Sang-Rak Lee; Jee-Hee Koo

It is very important, if necessary, to remotely monitor and control the body conditions and behavior of livestock as well as the environment of stall using ubiquitous ict, in order to improve the health and productivity of livestock. With the aim of developing a stall management system, this study investigated users’ needs, analyzed them to design systems, developed a web-system and an app for stall management, then applied them to a test-bed. The use of the app developed will make it easy for livestock farmers to easily monitor and control environment of stall using their smartphones and allow them to take care of stall more efficiently. Quantification of Carbon Emission Reduction by U-transportation Service Effect: A Case Study of Dongtan U-City

Tae-Woong Jung; Mu-Wook Pyeon; Jee-Hee Koo

With the emergence of the response to climate change as a global agenda, UNFCCC member countries must report their Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions and absorptions. With conventional carbon emission estimation methods such as the IPCC Guideline, however, it is impossible to measure reduction of carbon emissions by U-City services. Therefore, this study proposed estimating carbon emission reductions by using U-transportation services as a model because this service appears to be the most effective among U-City services in terms of carbon emission reduction. This approach which is unique in Korea has also attempted to quantify the reduction of carbon emissions by a U-transportation service by applying it to Dongtan U-City. The average vehicle speed before U-transportation service was set to 29.62 km/hr based on reference data. The average vehicle speed after application of U-transportation service was estimated based on 22.6% of the average velocity growth rate which was obtained by applying ITS (Intelligent Transport System) to three cities (Daejeon, Jeonju, and Jeju). Because of increase in vehicle speed by U-transportation service, the carbon emissions in Dongtan U-transportation decreased by 10.7% from 591,678 tCO2e/y to 528,527 tCO2e/y. In terms of velocity growth rate by U-transportation service, the regression between carbon emissions (0% to 40% section) and velocity growth by U-transportation service was estimated.

Developing Curriculum on U-City Education

Tae-Woong Jung; Jee-Hee Koo

Ubiquitous has brought a new paradigm to our society. ‘E’-branded apartments and mobile phones are now catching the public eye with a new brand, the ‘U’ prefix. There are a range of U-City related businesses carried out in diverse fields including R&D, central government, and self-governing bodies. As noted above, U-City is currently the buzz business in many fields but lacks professional manpower. In order to develop U-City as a new growth engine for Korea and export it to overseas, U-City education as well as curriculum development is urgently required. This paper proposed curriculum development methodologies for U-City education and carries a curriculum recommendation.

Status of U-city Human Resource Development Business and the Direction for Education Policies

Jee-Hee Koo; Tae-Woong Jung; Mu-Wook Pyeon

This research aims to explore the status of Korean U-City education, analyze the contents of U-City Human Resource Development (HRD) business, and propose a direction to implement the U-City education in the future. This thesis is divided into 3 sections; examination on the status of U-City education in domestic institutions and education programs, examination on 4 major U-City HRD businesses in the Ministry of Land, Transport, and Maritime Affairs (MLTM), and policy proposal on implementing U-City education in the future. It is expected that a great number of human resources would be required when U-City is carried forward in diverse business districts. This research thereby presents resolutions and alternatives to facilitate the development of U-City education programs and provide assistance to execute the U-City education process.
