A stable widely tunable laser using a silica-waveguide triple-ring resonator

A tunable laser consisting of a silica-waveguide triple-ring resonator connected directly to a semiconductor optical amplifier is presented. Stable single-mode, grid-hopping free and full-band wavelength-digitally-tuning operations with 50-GHz channel spacing are successfully demonstrated.

A compact 25-Gbps × 4-channel optical transceiver has been fabricated for optical backplane systems. Power consumption was as low as 20 mW/Gbps. A transmission experiment was successfully conducted at 25 Gbps.

A simple tunable laser consisting of a SOA mounted on Si substrate with silica waveguide resonated-ring-resonator was proposed. An excellent coupling loss of 0.41 dB between the waveguide and SOA enables fiber output power of more than 16 dBm.

We report 100-Gb/s DP-QPSK pICR module that employs a Si photonics chip with polarization beam splitters. We achieved a Q-value of 12 dB at signal input power of -10 dBm with optical signal to noise ratio of 18 dB.
