Yogesh Joshi; Jan Vondrák; Olga Vondráková; Thi Thuy Nguyen; Jae-Seoun Hur

The saxicolous lichen species, Caloplaca allochroa, is described as new from subtropical inland localities of Gangwon and Jeollanam Province (South Korea). It is characterized by occurring as two colour variants, yellowish and gray, based on presence vs. absence of anthraquinone pigments. Its colour contrast between brownish-red to brownishblack apothecial disc and yellowish-orange apothecial margin is very characteristic. Further diagnostic characters are a hymenium with numerous oil-drops and specific ecology. The species is related to Caloplaca flavorubescens and C. flavovirescens.

Yogesh Joshi; Xin Yu Wang; Thi Thuy Nguyen; Young Jin Koh; Jae-Seoun Hur

Abstract This study describes a new record of a thelotremoid lichen (Leucodecton desquamescens) from South Korea. The taxon is characterized by thick, bulging thallus with many calcium oxalate crystal inclusions; an immersed, round to irregular ascomata with free exciple, ellipsoid to ± roundish submuriform, brown ascospores, and lack of secondary metabolites. A detailed taxonomic description and comments are presented for this taxon. The lichen genus Leucodecton is reported for the first time in South Korea.

New species and new records in the family Graphidaceae (Ascomycota: Ostropales ) from Vietnam

Santosh Joshi; Udeni Jayalal; Soon-Ok Oh; Young Jin Koh; Thi Thuy Nguyen; Nguyen Anh Dzung; Jae-Seoun Hur

Acanthothecis salazinica and Diorygma archeri are described from Vietnam. The former is characterized by having a leprose thallus, creamish to whitish, entire, epruinose labia, a slit-like disc, a hyaline to brown, entire proper exciple, warty periphysoids, 8-spored asci, and 28–30loculate, hyaline, I-ascospores, 70–120 7–14 mm in size. The latter has a greenish grey thallus, a poorly developed, hyaline to pale or brownish proper exciple, 1-spored asci, hyaline, muriform ascospores, and produces protocetraric acid. Acanthothecis corcovadensis, Diorygma erythrellum, D. junghuhnii, D. macgregorii, Platygramme platyloma, Pliariona montagnei and Thecaria quassiicola are recorded for the first time from the country.

Santosh Joshi; Udeni Jayalal; Soon-Ok Oh; Thi Thuy Nguyen; Nguyen Anh Dzung; Jae-Seoun Hur

Abstract Graphis upretii is a new lichen species discovered in Vietnam. The species is characterized by a loosely corticate, rough, whitish grey to greyish green thallus, elongate and irregularly branched lirellae with an apically thin complete thalline margin (negrosina morph), laterally carbonized, entire proper exciple, clear hymenium, hyaline, 16~20 transversely locular ascospores, and about 50~95 × 10~15 μm in size. In addition, members of the taxon produce norstictic and stictic acids. Currently, the lichen flora of Vietnam include Arthonia radiata, Brigantiaea tricolor, Coenogonium implexum, Dirina paradoxa, Herpothallon sipmanii, Pertusaria pertusa, and Sarcographina cyclospora.

Santosh Joshi; D. K. Upreti; Thi Thuy Nguyen; Anh Dong Nguyen; Soon-Ok Oh; Jae-Seoun Hur

Abstract Fissurina hemithecioides from Vietnam is described for the first time. The new taxon is characterized by prominent ascomata with swollen labia, 2-3-spored asci, rather large, muriform, I- to weakly amyloid ascospores and the presence of the stictic acid chemosyndrome. In addition, records of the genera Carbacanthographis, Chapsa, Graphis, Pallidogramme, Phaeographis and Thecographa are listed, including important diagnostic characteristics of species along with distribution, ecology and illustrations.

The lichen genus Graphis from Vietnam

Santosh Joshi; Udeni Jayalal; Soon-Ok Oh; Thi Thuy Nguyen; Nguyen Anh Dzung; Jae-Seoun Hur

The status of Graphis (Ostropales: Graphidaceae) in Vietnam is presented, based on literature and observation of recently collected specimens. Eleven new records of the genus are described for the country. All important diagnostic characters of species are documented and supported by distribution, ecology, and illustrations. A key to the seventeen Graphis species in Vietnam is also provided.
