The aim of this qualitative study was to subsidize an evaluation of human resources management (HR) in nursing and to apprehend how the nursing managers and academic professors experience the use of quality indicators. Twelve academic professors, 10 managers from four teaching and assistance, public and private institutions in the city of Sao Paulo took part of this study. Data collection was carried out from March to July 2007, by means of semi-structured interviews, recorded and analyzed according to the thematic analysis referential. Two categories emerged from the results: Institutional and Professional Dimensions; in the first category, perceptions, feelings and demands that the collaborators found inherent to the organization and that could be the counterpart in the institution relationship with the operative actors were recovered. In the second category, they reported the intervenient factors - reasons, interests, disposition and professionals´ needs when performing activities required by the Institution. This study showed the processual character of construction and validation of indicators as a quality management instrument in HR.

This study was carried out in a philanthropic medium-size hospital institution in Sao Paulo - Brazil, aiming to disclose the cultural features of the institution. The adopted methodology was the qualitative study, following the steps proposed by Thévenet: document analysis, interview and observation. The analysis showed that when a new professional group starts working in an institution, it considers that some values must be changed. This change means to restructure the management of the organization and the people involved in it, facing the conflict posed by changing or preserving the old system.Este estudo foi realizado em uma instituicao hospitalar de carater filantropico, de medio porte, localizada na cidade de Sao Paulo, com o objetivo de desvendar tracos culturais da instituicao. A metodologia adotada foi a pesquisa qualitativa segundo os passos propostos por Thevenet: analise documental, entrevista e observacao. Pela analise ficou evidenciado que um novo grupo profissional, quando inserido em uma instituicao, considera que alguns valores deverao ser transformados. Esse processo de mudanca implica numa reestruturacao na maneira de gerir a organizacao ocasionando, nos sujeitos que estao vivenciando esse processo, uma situacao conflituosa entre o mudar ou conservar o antigo.

Adequate patient education about drug treatment regimen at discharge contributes to the continuity of home care. Integrative review aimed to analyze and synthesize the scientific literature about patient education on medication regimen in the hospital discharge process. We consulted the databases Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System on-line (MEDLINE) and Latin-American and Caribbean Center on Health Sciences Information (LILACS), and selected 24 articles published between 2005 and 2010. Inter-related aspects, such as structured discharge planning, medication reconciliation, drug education, adverse drug events and medication adherence, permeate the theme.

Este traba lho complexo e específico, inc lu i a possib i l idade dos trabalhadores imprim i rem a sua marca , a sua criatividade e , é possível a enfermagem real izar um trabalho mais humano e mais valorizado. Apesar das condições adversas, existe uma identidade dos trabalhadores com a profissão, além de uma simples relação de emprego para sobrevivência. O domínio de um conhecimento especia l une, e dá identidade ao grupo, apesar dos confl itos .
